From Oswego the immigrant could take a Lake Ontario steamer to Prescott, Brockville, Kingston Toronto, or Hamilton, depending on his destination. From Buffalo he could take the steamer at Niagara. If he landed at Maitland's steamer wharf in Toronto in 1838, this was his view of the city at the moment of disembarkation.
