In the historic era chiefs and diplomats often used the symbol of their clan when signing official documents. Five Seneca chiefs signed this treaty at QuΘbec in 1666. One was a member of the Turtle Clan; a second of the Bear. The three members of clans in the bird clan moiety possibly represent the Hawk, Snipe, and Heron Clans.
