This three-legged stand of forged iron is made in the attractive shape of a heart. Ingeniously conceived, it is fashioned from a bar of iron bent and soldered, the three feet simply rivetted by hammering. It served as a place for the coffee-pot near the fire-logs and to hold the flat irons. It is evidence, in its own way, of the care taken to express feeling even in the lesser objects of everyday life. Many ordinary objects such as knife-boxes, salt-boxes, dust-pans, and cornices display representations of love. They must have come from the clever hands of the bride's father or of the husband himself some time before or after the marriage.
