Here archaeologists brush away sand covering the skeleton of the twelve-year-old boy buried beneath the mound at L'Anse-Amour. The well-drained sand and the depth at which the skeleton lay, which may have kept it relatively cold through most of the year, helped to preserve the bone. Physical anthropologists determined the skeleton was that of a person we would recognize as Indian as opposed to Inuit or European.
