Intermediate Indian Period 3,500 to 2,000 Years Ago.
In central and southern Labrador, after the Maritime Archaic period, an Indian occupation occurred before the Recent Indian period and partly during the time early Palaeo-Eskimos inhabited the area. Spear or arrow points like these are practically the only artifacts known from this Intermediate Indian occupation, The small scrapers and chipped stone knives are so generalized in form that they are not particularly useful to archaeologists in reconstructing cultural history. The example on the left is reminiscent of earlier Maritime Archaic examples, while that on the right seems to foreshadow Recent Indian arrow points. This has led some archaeologists to speculate that the Intermediate Indian period provides a link between Maritime Archaic and Recent Indian cultures.
