While most immigrants took what employment they could find, some pooled their limited resources and went into business for themselves. The group in this photograph purchased horses and a power saw and then toured the city, especially middle-class neighbourhoods such as the one shown here, cutting household fuel supplies. The presence of the young boy in this crew may indicate that it was a family enterprise.
