Officers' Mess, Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers, Royal Artillery Park, Halifax.
This is one of the officers' messes in Halifax. The furnishings for each mess were purchased from funds raised by a compulsory contribution from each officer and from fines levied upon violators of mess rules. Each regiment had its own china and silver. The silver pieces were often gifts from civic authorities when the regiment moved on. On such occasions the local authorities in Canada usually issued testimonials and made presentations to the regiment in recognition of its contribution to the community.
