This photograph taken from the top of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Church (The Sailor's Church) shows the main section of the Montreal Harbour. Between 10 and 15 per cent of the city's labour force was employed in occupations linked directly to the harbour. However, since it was closed four months of the year, thousands of workers faced regular winter unemployment.
