The gradual extension of tramway lines to the North and East of the city gave the urban poor an opportunity to escape the ghetto life of the downtown area. The apparent spaciousness of the Molson Park area in Rosemount shown here, is deceptive. Few provisions were made for parks or open spaces and zoning regulations were non-existent. As a result, the urban developers quickly filled every available bit of space until housing in the "new" areas quickly imitated the old in terms of crowding and life styles.
