Dundas Street Looking East from Richmond Street Ca. 1897.
For more than 120 years the Dundas-Richmond intersection has been the focal point of the central business district. The structure on the far left of the postcard, the Canadian Bank of Commerce Building, was replaced with a second bank building by 1906; the present Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Building on this site was completed in 1964. The Edge Block, on the extreme right, was built in the 1870s; the former Grand Trunk Railway ticket office therein now houses a United Cigar store. In striking contrast to earlier views of the city is the increased number of unsightly poles and wires.
