Louis V. Ludwig's Vinegar and Cider Manufactory Ca. 1893.
London's first cider manufactory, the London Cider Works, was located on the northwest corner of York and Ridout Streets and founded about 1886. It was purchased approximately a year later by Louis Valentine Ludwig. The enterprise was expanded to include the manufacturing of vinegar, and by 1892 Ludwig had transferred his operations to the building shown in this anonymous photograph; the structure stood immediately northwest of Blackfriars Bridge. For some ten years prior to his retirement about 1906, Ludwig was proprietor of the London Vinegar Works on King Street. "Firbrae" (now "Blackfriars" and the official residence of the bishop of London) is seen in the right background.
