"Eldon House" was built by Edward Matthews in 1834 for the John Harris family, whose descendants owned it until 1960. It is now the property of the Corporation of the City of London and is open to the public. The library, initially the drawing room, is one of the rooms dating from the original construction. The wooden panelled ceiling dates from the 1880s and the wallpaper from the 1890s. The room itself has been restored to the latter decade. On the east wall of the morning room, seen beyond the library in this photograph, are mounted different types of Chinese blue porcelain.
