Both the religious and residential facets of London in the eighth decade of the last century are depicted in this anonymous photograph. The prominent structure in the right foreground is the North Street Wesleyan Methodist Church, destroyed by fire in 1895. This site, on the southwest corner of Queens Avenue and Clarence Street, is now occupied by Union Gas Limited and Avco Financial Services. In the lower right foreground are three residences, none of which survive, each denoting different periods of construction, architectural styles and degrees of wealth. The brick dwelling was built in 1875.
