The eastbound passenger train in this anonymous watercolour, copied from an oil painting, is stopped at the Great Western station. In the right background is the station, in use since 1853 and razed only in 1935. The present Canadian National station is the third such structure on this site. In the left background is the level crossing at Richmond Street; the present subway was only opened in December, 1931. The large building in the central background is the Tecumseh House, at that time the largest hotel in British North America. It did not open until December, 1858, and ceased operations in September, 1929, a victim of prohibition.
