1. Hand pick and hammer
This hand-forged pick and hammer, also called the prospector's hand pick was used to collect samples.
2. Gold pan
In the early days, gold miners scooped stones from stream-beds with these pans and carefully sorted them for nuggets.
3. Blasting machine
This blasting machine has a capacity to ignite 50 caps of dynamite in series. It is made of hardwood with dove-tailed corners for strength.
4. Blasting wires
The wires connected the blasting caps to the blasting machine.
5. Pick
This is a common Lewis long hand-made pick, and was used for cutting or digging out ore.
6. Case for dynamite
Forty percent (trinitrotoluene TNT) dynamite was used for medium hard-rock, sixty percent for very hard rock containing iron or copper ore. This case held fifty pounds of dynamite, approximately 100 sticks.
