The building in the centre foreground is the ore loading shed where the ore was transferred to the rail cars for shipment to the smelters or concentrators. The mine head enclosing the hoist which hauled the ore out of the mines and took the miners to and from their work and the power house can be seen at the upper left. The cars being loaded belong the the CPR which had gained entry into the Boundary region with the purchase of the Columbia and Western railway in 1898 and its completion from Rossland to Midway, the western extreme of the Boundary area, in 1899.
