Although employers rated Asiatics as excellent workers, many white British Columbians felt that Orientals could not be assimilated. In 1907, when thousands of Orientals were pouring into the coast province, a white mob invaded the Chinese and Japanese sections of Vancouver attacking Asiatics and destroying property. This disturbance prompted the Dominion government to tighten restrictions pertaining to the entry of Asiatics.
