Between 1896 and 1914 over a million British immigrants arrived at Canadian ports. Newcomers from Great Britain comprised about forty per cent of all immigrants coming to Canada in this time period. The slide shows the S.S. Noronic, out of Liverpool, docking at Quebec City. Quebec was the main port of entry for European immigrants, but many landed in Halifax and Saint John as well. Their stay in the eastern ports was usually very brief. They were quickly hustled onto immigration trains for the long journey west.
