The view is from the central square, looking northeast. The atmosphere is one of activity and construction, with teams of horses and lumber everywhere. Some of the main buildings shown are a mining exchange, a bank, several restaurants, and lawyers' offices. The population had reached about 8,000 by this time. Slightly over half of the residents were of British origin, about one-third were French-Canadian, and the remainder included Russians, Germans, and Italians who had come in after the strike of 1907.
