  1. This is a preliminary release of REFMAN.CLS for
  2. LaTeX2e.
  3.

  6. It is based on the Classes.dtx and the Refman.sty version 1.1.
  7.  
  8. This new style is a style by it's own and no style-option.
  9. I've made these change to support some things which would have
  10. been difficult with a style-option.
  11.  
  12. The new class consitst of
  13. refman-s.cls    an article-like style
  14. refman.cls    a report-like style
  15. ref10.clo
  16. ref11.clo    the size-dependent options
  17. ref12.clo
  18.  
  19. There is only little difference between refman-s and refman:
  20.  
  21. Refmans supports chapters, has a titlepage by default and uses
  22. chaptermark and sectionmark in footings and headings.
  23.  
  24. Refman-s supports an optional titlepage and uses sectionmark
  25. and subsectionmark in footings and headings.

  27. Changes:

  30. Both classes support different papersizes, as the original
  31. LaTeX2e-classes including the landscape option.
  32. There is a new option to produce a square-layout.
  33.  
  34. The pagelayout is not 100% compatible to refman.sty due to the
  35. multiple-papersize-support.
  36. The running head and foot is not compatible to refman.sty.
  37.  
  38. I've changed the footnote-layout since a not indended footnote-
  39. layout fits better to a not indended textlayout.

  41. I've tried to support an index-environment. This is not tested
  42. and may change in the final release. The current version supports
  43. twocolumn-layout in the index.

  45. The maketitle-command sets title *and* autor *and* date. If you
  46. don't want the date use \date{} before calling \maketitle.

  51. The command setleftmarginwidth is no longer supported. There is no
  52. use setting the leftmargin to a fixed value if you don't know
  53. the fullwidth. (See Future commands)

  55. The makeauthor is no longer supported, this is done by maketitle.

  60. Setleftmarginfraction: (or textfraction)
  61. This will reset the horizontal layout giving you a leftmargin
  62. of setleftmarginfration*fullwidth, not considering how long
  63. the textwidth will be. This may be used to overwrite the
  64. 60-70 character~per~line~limit.

  66. There are some commands I consider usefull in a reference
  67. manual style:

  69. Pagebychapter: This will give you new pagenumbers each chapter
  70. looking like 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1 ...
