  1. Introduction to the `term' v4.2 distribution
  2. ============================================
  3. Since  so  many  things went wrong with the `term' v3.4 distribution I have
  4. decided to change the distribution scheme in v4.0. The same scheme has been
  5. applied  to  v4.2  since it worked rather well with v4.0 and v4.1 and I did
  6. not  want  to  rewrite all the script files which were used to put the v4.0
  7. and  v4.1  distributions together. There are now nine distribution archives
  8. whose  contents  are  listed  below.  For  the  most  important  files  PGP
  9. signatures are provided to let you verify their integrities.
  10.    You  do  not  need  to  download all the nine archives in order to get a
  11. working  `term'  v4.2  setup.  Just  download the files you need, explained
  12. below is what the archives contain.

  15. term-4.2-Main.lha (547138 bytes)
  16. --------------------------------
  17. This  archive  contains  all you need to run `term' on your Amiga. Only the
  18. basic set of libraries and documentation files are included. If you wish to
  19. use    other   external   transfer   transfer   protocol   libraries   than
  20. xprzmodem.library  or  need  to  use  special  external  terminal emulation
  21. libraries   you   should   download  the  term-4.2-Libs.lha  archive.  More
  22. documentation files can be found in the term-4.2-Doc.lha archive.

  24. term-4.2-030.lha (545884 bytes)
  25. -------------------------------
  26. This  archive contains all you need to run `term' on an Amiga equipped with
  27. an   MC68020/030/040/060   CPU.   Only  the  basic  set  of  libraries  and
  28. documentation  files  are  included.  If  you  wish  to  use other external
  29. transfer  transfer protocol libraries than xprzmodem.library or need to use
  30. special  external  terminal  emulation  libraries  you  should download the
  31. term-4.2-Libs.lha  archive.  More  documentation  files can be found in the
  32. term-4.2-Doc.lha archive.

  34. term-4.2-Doc.lha (184949 bytes)
  35. -------------------------------
  36. This  archive  contains the main program documentation in AmigaGuide format
  37. for browsing with MultiView and the like and additional documentation files
  38. for the file transfer and terminal emulation libraries.

  40. term-4.2-Libs.lha (128528 bytes)
  41. --------------------------------
  42. This   archive   contains  special  support  libraries  which  enhance  the
  43. functionality  of  `term'.  These are terminal emulation libraries and file
  44. transfer  protocol libraries. It definitely is a good idea to download this
  45. archive if you don't have these libraries around already.

  47. term-4.2-Extras.lha (207601 bytes)
  48. ----------------------------------
  49. This  archive  contains  extra material that is not absolutely necessary to
  50. run  `term'  v4.2, but may still either be fun to have around or adds extra
  51. functionality. Included are revision 2 of the HydraCom Amiga port which can
  52. be  used  with  `term'  (note:  HydraCom  is  a bidirectional file transfer
  53. protocol  similar  to bimodem), sample ARexx scripts, character translation
  54. tables and sound files.

  56. term-4.2-Locale.lha (215808 bytes)
  57. ---------------------------------
  58. This  archive  contains  the  user  interface text, translated into Danish,
  59. Dutch,  French, German, Italian and Swedish and a blank catalog translation
  60. table  file  to  fill in. Download this file only if you want `term' to use
  61. Danish,  Dutch,  French,  German,  Italian  or  Swedish user interface text
  62. (Workbench  2.1  or  Workbench  3.x required) or wish to translate the user
  63. interface text into your preferred language.

  65. term-4.2-Source.lha (685265 bytes)
  66. ----------------------------------
  67. This  archive  contains  the  source  code  to  the  entire `term' project,
  68. including  the  new  user  interface  support  library.  This is by far the
  69. largest  archive in the distribution, so think carefully if you really need
  70. to download it.

  72. term-4.2-DVI.lha (190781 bytes)
  73. -------------------------------
  74. This  archive  contains  the  main program documentation in TeX DVI format,
  75. suitable  for  printing  on  a TeX setup. Download this archive only if you
  76. wish to create a printed manual.

  78. term-4.2-PostScript.lha (232661 bytes)
  79. --------------------------------------
  80. This  archive contains the main program documentation in PostScript format,
  81. suitable  for  printing on a PostScript printer. Download this archive only
  82. if you wish to create a printed manual.

  85. Installation
  86. ============
  87. `term'  v4.2  is  very  easily installed; just unpack all the archive files
  88. into   the   same  directory.  Ignore  any  messages  about  files  getting
  89. overwritten  since  some files are found in several archives. When unpacked
  90. you  will  have  the  complete distribution sitting on your hard disk drive
  91. just  as it looks like in my original distribution tree. You do not need to
  92. copy  the  libraries,  fonts  or  catalog files to the corresponding system
  93. directories, `term' will find the files contained therein all on its own.

  96. Archive listings
  97. ================
  98. Below  is  the  output  produced  by  the LhA program when told to list the
  99. contents of all the distribution archives. As experience shows, the archive
  100. contents  may  grow  since  more or less sensible .displayme files will get
  101. added.  The  core  of the archives should stay intact, however. Don't trust
  102. distribution archives of which some contents are missing.
  103.    Some  smart  guy  unpacked  the  v4.0  distribution  onto nine disks and
  104. recompressed  the  contents  using  the  DMS  program  which  both made the
  105. distribution files larger and more difficult to review. In addition to that
  106. all occurences of the ".lha" suffix in the "term-4.0-Roadmap.txt" file were
  107. replaced by ".dms" to make things look more `official'. So, if ".lha" reads
  108. ".dms"  in  this  document  you can be sure that this has happened again. I
  109. *never* distribute `term' in the form of DMS archives.
