  87. twelve offensive play diagrams in the manual.  I'd rate the protection scheme
  88. as 'acceptable'.  For easier reference, I drew all the diagrams in Deluxe
  89. Paint and printed them out on one page, which took little effort.

  91.     TLSF can be run from a hard drive and includes Commodores Installer
  92. program to ease the pain of installation. No 'key' disks are required for
  93. either user-validation nor data-saves.

  98.     40 page printed manual. No on-disk 'read.me' files.  Comprehensive
  99. built-in context-sensitive 'HELP' facility during games.

  101.     The documentation is incorrect and incomplete in many areas. It says
  102. there are three disks, when there are only two. It says there is an animated
  103. intro to the program, when there is not. The modem options need to be
  104. explained in more detail:  certainly as much as most of the other options
  105. are, and with more troubleshooting assistance.  Music is not played at all
  106. menus and submenus as the documentation suggests.

  109. GAMEPLAY

  112.         MAIN:
  113.  
  114.     After a digitized welcome from Coach Tom Landry, up pops the TLSF
  115.     main menu. All menus in the game are consistently good-looking with
  116.     3-D shadowed boxes and buttons and an eye-pleasing color scheme. The
  117.     main menu's buttons are:
  118.  
  119.     [RULES]    - Choose either playoffs or regular season rules,
  120.               the difference being how overtime is handled.
  121.     [LEVEL] - Choose either head coach or assistant coach, the
  122.               difference being that the head coach has the 
  123.               entire playbook available and the assistant 
  124.               coach has limited play-calling ability.
  125.     [TEAMS] - Select home team and visitors from a list of
  126.               28 teams (non-NFL, but similar)
  127.     [PLAYER] - Designate each team as a computer or a human
  128.                player. Play HUMAN-HUMAN, HUMAN-COMPUTER, or
  129.                COMPUTER-COMPUTER.
  130.     [LEAGUE] - Select a league from a list of one! Since there
  131.                is room for 28 leagues here I'd assume things.
  132.     [PREFS] - Checkmark the preferences you wish to use, like:
  133.               Sound Effects (crowd, referee, players)
  134.               Digitized Pics (referee penalty screens)
  135.               Animation (actual graphic representation of plays)
  136.               Computer Calls (computer opponents plays displayed)
  137.               Homefield Advantage (hometeam has an edge)
  138.               Fatigue (has effect)
  139.               Injuries (are possible)
  140.               Modern Timing (handles how clock is operated)
  141.     [MODEM] - Set baud rate (1200-57,600), name, phone number,
  142.               dial string, answer string, null modem, hang up,
  143.               load/save/delete numbers.
  144.     [SCOUTING] - Shows offense and defense reports of any team
  145.                  and grades players in stats like QB leadership,
  146.                  QB defense reading, quickness, fumble %, speed,
  147.                  strength, hands, QB passing abilities, defense
  148.                  ratings against the runs and passes and the
  149.                  line's overall abilities. You can also check the
  150.                  offenses tendencies to run/pass on certain downs
  151.                  and at certain distances. These reports can be
  152.                  dumped to a disk file as well.
  153.     [SEASON] - Check the current seasons stats and records, or
  154.                clear the season.
  155.     [SCENARIO] - An editor to allow you to practice a particular
  156.                  game situation (two-min offense, etc.), relive
  157.                  a great football play, or play an incomplete
  158.                  or short game. You can set the scores, time,
  159.                  quarter, down, yards to go, possession, direction,
  160.                  wind speed and direction, precipitation, and
  161.                  ball position.

  163.     In addition to the options available only at the main menu,
  164.     there is a menu strip at the bottom of the screen which is
  165.     there throughout the game:

  167.     [QUIT] - Quit current game or entire program.
  168.     [LOAD] - Load a game.
  169.     [SAVE] - Save a game.
  170.     [PREFS] - Change preferences, even in mid-game.
  171.     [HELP] - Brings up either the help topics screen or help
  172.              with the screen you are currently in.
  173.     [STATS] - Game stats so far (team, offense, or defense).
  174.     [REPLAY] - Replay the last play using VCR-type controls.
  175.     [CHAT] - Brings up chat window if playing via modem.
  176.     [GO!] - 'Goes' to whatever you have chosen, depending on
  177.             the screen you're on and options picked.

  179.         OFFENSE
  180.  
  181.     Once options and teams are chosen at the main menu, the coin toss is
  182.     made and teams choose to kick/receive and defend a goal. Weather
  183.     (wind and precipitation) is displayed, and the kickoff and return
  184.     are accomplished. The kicking team chooses Onside, Squib, or Deep
  185.     kick. The defense chooses the same for the return, plus options for
  186.     kicks in the endzone (Don't Return Any, Return Only Shallow, Return
  187.     All).  If animation is turned on, you see the kickoff occur and the
  188.     return down field. You are then given the offense options screen.
  189.     This screen comes up before every play so you can choose your
  190.     offenses strategy. There are five buttons always available during
  191.     gameplay (aside from the menu strip at the bottom of the screen):

  193.     [WEATHER] - Find out the current weather conditions
  194.     [CLOCK] - Pressing this button brings up the clock options
  195.               and info screen. Here you are given information
  196.               about the clock (like "The clock is paused but is
  197.               about to start"), as well as a number of buttons
  198.               which control the clock: Waste A Pass, No Huddle,
  199.               Let Clock Run, Call Time Out, Have Players Try To
  200.               Get Out Of Bounds, Bring Up This Screen When Clock
  201.               Is Running.
  202.     [SCOUT] - Review the scouting report (see above).
  203.     [SUBS] - Make player substitutions.
  204.     [LANDRY] - Ask Coach Landry about the current game situation
