  12.         Mand2000D   is   the  demo  version  of  Mand2000,  a  fractal
  13. exploration program created by Cygnus Software.  Mand2000 is a tryware
  14. program.   You  can use the demo version all you want, give it to your
  15. friends,  put it on club disks and post it to bulletin boards, as long
  16. as  you  distribute  this  notice, the help file and the example ARexx
  17. scripts  with  it.   If  you wish to put Mand2000D on a cover disk, or
  18. otherwise  use  it  in  a commercial manner, please ask our permission
  19. first.   The  TweenPlayer can also be distributed, subject to the same
  20. restrictions.

  22.         However,  this demo version has had save crippled (saving from
  23. ARexx  only, no saving of fractal location information, a maximum save
  24. size,  and  a  stripe along the right edge of some pictures), and will
  25. occasionally bring up a text requester to remind you that it is a demo
  26. version.   The  release  version  does save of course, and no annoying
  27. requesters  will appear.  Additional features that the release version
  28. has  include  ARexx  documentation,  much  more  help,  and some extra
  29. fractal programs, some with source code.

  31.         Pull  out  your  favourite animation player and take a look at
  32. some of the amazing animations that we've created with Mand2000.  Then
  33. take  Mand2000D  for a test drive.  If you think fractals are dull and
  34. all fractal explorers are the same, this will change your mind.

  36.         All  of the fractal icons were created using the icon creation
  37. abilities  of  Mand2000.   Individual frames were loaded into Mand2000
  38. and  then saved out with `Create icons always' turned on.  This causes
  39. Mand2000  to  create  an  icon that is a miniature version of the full
  40. image.   Using  this  feature,  an  entire  directory of images can be
  41. quickly examined by opening it from the workbench.  To see this effect
  42. demonstrated  very well, open the ZoomMovie icon and look at the icons
  43. representing the 39 frames of this zoom animation.

  45.         Just another great feature of Mand2000.

  47.         Almost   all   of   the   pictures  and  animations  for  this
  48. distribution  were  created  in 32 colour NTSC, so that all Amigas can
  49. load  them.   However  Mand2000  is  certainly not restricted to this.
  50. Mand2000  supports  all AGA screen modes in up to 256 colours and also
  51. runs  on the Picasso, Retina, Piccolo, EGS Spectrum and other graphics
  52. boards.   For creating images with greater than 256 colours, ADPro 2.5
  53. can  load Mand2000 iteration files and translate them into full 24 bit
  54. colour (see the IterAnims directory).

  56.         The  full  version  of Mand2000 can be purchased for US $34.95
  57. direct  from  Cygnus Software.  Sorry, no credit cards.  Cheque, money

  65.                                Installation:
  66.  
  67.         To  install  the  Mand2000 demo, make a directory on your hard
  68. drive, or format a floppy disk, and copy the Mand2000D and TweenPlayer
  69. programs,  and  Mand2000Demo.help to that directory.  This can be done
  70. by  just  dragging  the icons to the drawer using Workbench.  Then you
  71. should  copy  the ARexx scripts to your rexx:  directory.  Even if you
  72. don't  program  in  ARexx  you should still copy these scripts because
  73. they add some very useful menu commands.  To copy the ARexx scripts to
  74. rexx:  simply double click on the InstallRexx icon.  You may also want
  75. to  adjust the `Tool directory' in the `Set misc' menu to point to the
  76. drawer  where  you  install Mand2000, or else assign Mand2000:  to the
  77. installation drawer.

  81.                              Trouble shooting:
  82.  
  83.         Mand2000  runs  on  all Amigas with AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher and
  84. makes  full  use  of the AGA chipset when present.  It has been tested
  85. for  compatibility  on Amiga 2000s, 3000s, 4000s, 500s and 1200s, with
  86. 68000,  68020, 68030 and 68040 processors, and should run on all other
  87. models as well.

  89.         If Mand2000 fails to run properly on your machine, the problem
  90. is  usually  due  to conflicts with another program.  Try removing all
  91. non-Commodore programs from your WBStartup and user-startup and see if
  92. this  fixes  the  problem.   Some  dongles  can  cause  problems  with
  93. Mand2000's  joystick  scrolling  -  if  this  is  a  problem, turn off
  94. joystick scrolling in the 'setmisc' requester.

  98.                              What is Mand2000?
  99.  
  100.         Mand2000   is  meant  to  be  nothing  less  than  the  finest
  101. Mandelbrot  exploration  program  available  on any computer.  We have
  102. attempted  to  combine  speed,  power and simplicity with a few unique
  103. features,  all  designed to make it easy for you to discover uncharted
  104. regions of the Mandelbrot and Julia sets.

  106.         The  TweenPlayer is for playing TweenMovies, which are created
  107. from  the  `Make  zoom movie' menu in Mand2000D.  Read the online help
  108. for further information, or check out the ZoomMovie directory.

  112.                          How do you use Mand2000?
  113.  
  114.         To  start using Mand2000, the simplest thing to do is to place
  115. the  mouse  over  an  interesting  area, one of the areas with lots of
  116. detail, and then double click the left mouse button.  The picture will
  117. zoom in, placing the area under the mouse in the centre of the screen.
  118. You  can  continue doing this as many times as you like, searching for
  119. interesting  areas.   To  zoom  out  press `D'.  To scroll the picture
  120. around,  hold  down  the  left mouse button and drag, or use the arrow
  121. keys, the numeric keypad, or a joystick.
  122.  
  123.         For  full  information  on  how to use Mand2000, read the help
  124. associated with the individual menu items.  Just highlight a menu item
  125. and  press  the HELP key or press the HELP key any time a requester is
  126. active.   However  the  help in the demo version is fairly skimpy, the
  127. full version has almost three times as much information.
