  6. CD-ROM DRIVER SOFTWARE

  9. I have tested a number of different CD-ROM driver packages and have found
  10. problems with most of them except for the Xetec driver, the Z3-Fastlane
  11. driver, and the very latest ASIMware Innovations driver.  Usually the
  12. problems involve opening or reading files that have international charac-
  13. ters in their names, or have embedded semicolon characters.  However don't
  14. panic, this typically involves only a couple dozen files out of the 40,000+
  15. files on this CD-ROM.

  17. To see if your driver is capable of correctly reading every file on this
  18. CD-ROM, run the following test, which may take between 2 and 24 hours
  19. depending upon what software you are using, the speed of your drive, what
  20. controller card you have, what CD-ROM drive you have, etc, etc.  Be sure
  21. that you have either run the CD startup sequence as described in
  22. README-FIRST or else have arranged for brik to be in your path and for
  23. ixemul.library to be found in your LIBS: directory.

  29. The test should run with no output to either the screen or the logfile, as
  30. the case may be.  If brik fails to find or correctly read any file on the
  31. CD-ROM, it will generate a line of output giving the file name and an
  32. appropriate error message.  If you do get errors, I suggest sending the
  33. list of files that have problems to the supplier of your CD-ROM software,
  34. and inquire about an update.

  37. REPORTING PROBLEMS

  40. If you have problems running some program on this disk, or find bugs in a
  41. program, you should report these problems to the author of the program, not
  42. to me.  I likely will not be able to help you and dealing with such problem
  43. reports takes time away from other projects, like getting the next disk
  44. out.  Also, I generally have no more additional contact information for
  45. authors than what is already provided on the CD-ROM, so please don't send
  46. reports to me asking me to "pass them on" to the author.

  48. About the only exception to this is problems with the GNU utilities.
  49. Problems that appear to be Amiga specific should be reported to me.  Other
  50. problems, particularly if you can duplicate them on a UNIX system running
  51. the same version of the GNU software without any Amiga specific patches,
  52. should be reported to the FSF.

  66. READING THIS CD-ROM ON OTHER SYSTEMS

  69. I have had mixed reports of success or problems with attempting to read
  70. this CD-ROM on other systems, such as UNIX systems or systems running
  71. MS-DOS.  If you are using such systems and can try to read this CD-ROM on
  72. them, I would be interested in receiving back reports of your results.

  74. Note that positive reports like "everything was fine" are just as important
  75. as negative reports like "nothing worked".  Otherwise the only time I hear
  76. about the results is when people have problems.  The best way to report
  77. these results is to send me a FAX, describing your hardware and software
  78. configuration, any problems you encountered, and what if anything, you were
  79. able to do to overcome the problems.  Thanks!
