This program is shareware in the sense that I share it with you. Do with it what you like as long as you don't sell it. Any praise in whatever form to the above address; complaints and death threats to elsewhere in the world please. I would like to see any improvements. But of course, perfection cannot be bettered.
This program might do what I say it does, but I guarantee nothing.
What does StripCase do?
=======================
Stripcase will selectively remove DOS file extensions from file names and convert filenames to lower case.
Why was it written?
===================
I have a large collection of PC CD ROMS and a lot of filenames get copied over to hard disc, usually inside thumbprint or other archiving directories. As the file extension makes no real sense in RISC OS and as lower case letters are easier to read and fit better into RISC PC icons, I wrote this little program.
Limitations:
============
StripCase will not deal with directories. All it does with directories is to open them. If any file is locked, the program will hang up.
This program has been written on a RISC PC and I have not tested it on any other model. However, I see no reason why it should not work on any RISC OS 3.1 machine.
Dragging the same file that has been already converted (eg, having stripped the .EXTension, you then decide to also lowercase the file,) will instead append the file with '-1', and !StripCase will quit with an error, *unless* you remember to change the selection, ie de-select 'Strip .EXT' - because there's no longer any extension.
How to use StripCase:
=====================
Double click in the usual manner and press select on the icon. A window will open giving you three choices.
You can open this help text - which you will already have discovered, with the help button.
When the 'lower case' button is selected, all filenames are converted to lower case, except the first letter and the file extension, if present. Clicking again will deselect this option.
The 'Extension' button determines wether or not the file extension will be stripped.
The program will only open directories. To treat a complete directory select all the files and drag them onto the window.
