There are a number of image formats out there. They offer different features - compression, DPI, colour depth, quality etc. These are a few of the ones supported by Spr2Jpeg.
Formats:
PBM - Very similar to Clear, in fact identical (except header). Mainly from other platforms.
Clear - See above. Very straight-forward format, designed to be 24-bit standard for Arc, tho can be any
number of colours.
Sprite - Can handle up to, with latest RiscOS, 24-bit colour (ie full colour) images, but not as simple
as Clear or PBM. Offers some nice features, like DPI, multiple images.
Jpeg - Very, very good compression for real-world (digitised) images, but horrible to program. Very
complicated indeed.
GIF - Simple, non lossy (LZW) compression. Fairly standard on PCs, but not amazing quality.
Targa - Possibly used for ray tracers on PCs. Not common, but high quality (24-bit colour).
Bitmap - Standard image format on PCs. OS/2 and Windows variants - both supported (although it won't
load OS/2 bitmaps yet).
Plus, Spr2Jpeg will load any format that ChangeFSI can handle; these are documented in ChangeFSI.
