* Some drive controllers can hang up, needing a power-on reset. The *

PURPOSE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program controls a feature of ADFS hard drives which allows them to
be ‘spun down’ (ie the drive stops turning). The program has two main uses.
1) Any ADFS drive 4-7 can be spun down or spun up immediately.
2) The autospindown time of any drive can be set. This is a
configuration, and once set SpinDown no longer needs to be
loaded.
THE MAIN WINDOW
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This can be used for 1 and 2 above. Any operations in this window will be
carried out on the drive whose number is shown in the middle of the window.
This can be changed using the up and down arrows. One or both of these may
be greyed out if no further drives are available.
CONFIGURING AUTOSPINDOWN
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
To configure the autospindown time for the drive shown, click on the second
radio icon (“Spindown after...”) and use the up and down arrows to select
the desired spindown time. Times from 30 seconds to 2 hours can be
selected. To disable autospindown click on the top radio icon (the time
shown below is then ignored). Note that if the drive is not spinning when
autospindown is disabled then it will be spun up - this is an unavoidable
‘feature’ of the SWI used!
Once the options are correct, click on Set to store the values. The drive
will now spin down after the length of time entered. SpinDown is no longer
needed after this as the drive controller handles the autospindown. This
procedure can be repeated for any other drives as needed. To read the
current configuration of any drive click on Read.
INSTANT SPINDOWN
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The drive can also be spun up or down without affecting the configuration
by using the two icons “Spin up” and “Spin down”. Clicking on the icon bar
with Adjust will toggle between spinning and stopped. This can be used as a
shortcut - clicking on the icon bar will cause the drive whose number is
shown in the main window to be spun down.
