SlotSize allows the user to control the memory allocated to an application when it starts up. It forces the system to ignore the memory allocation request made when the program starts and instead to take the ammount of memory alloted by the user. Please read section 2.2 below carefully before using the program.
This document describes version 0.01 of SlotSize, an alpha-test copy. Please report bugs as soon as possible. A full release will come quite soon. Even if you don't find any bugs I'd be very interested in your comments on the program and enhancements you would like to see. You can contact using any of the means described in 3.3.
2. Using SlotSize

2.1 Controlling Memory Allocation

To start memory alocation control, open the SlotSize menu and the Set Size submenu. Then type the ammount of memory you wish to allocate to each application and click SELECT.
To turn control off, simply click SELECT or ADJUST on the Set Size item of the main SlotSize menu.
2.2 Some notes on usage

Most of the applications around will have only been tested fully using the memory allocations they usually take. Reducing this memory could lead to the application quitting unexpectedly or to your losing data. However, it may be that the application simply takes more memory than it really needs because it's authors were being 'safe'. There is always some risk involved in lowering a slot size.
I would recommend the following procedure:
- Load SlotSize and set a size just below what the application usually takes.
- Load the application.
- Then use it for various tasks as you would normally, but not for any *serious* work.
- If it seems stable with the lower memory allocation, change the <Application$Dir>.!Run file's WimpSlot command.
Remember that once SlotSize is active (ticked in main menu), all applications launched will get the memory allocation you have specified.

The software contained in this package is Shareware. The word 'Shareware' means many things to many people, so I'll explain what I mean. In fact, some people would call this 'freeware' or 'public domain software' but it hardly matters what you call it - your obligations are set out below.
The program is free. You may make any number of copies and give them away to anyone (subject to the condition that you give them ALL the files in the package). You may not sell this software, or use it otherwise for personal gain without my permission. If you wish to post it on your Bulletin Board or include it in your Shareware library then that, too, is fine.
