!Sig - 1.8
Random Signatures for Marcel
A small PD program for use with !Marcel
Written by Brett Laniosh brett@g4nzk.demon.co.uk
Adapted by Stuart Bruce stuart@atomiser.demon.co.uk
Additional programming by Andrew Berry andrew@aberry.demon.co.uk
Additional additional programming by Robin Watts
This program gives random signatures in !Marcel. There's no limit to the
number of signatures allowed and once easily installed the process is
completely automatically.
It's a simple program but it works!
Installation ============
* Open the relevant user's copy of !MarcelDir by double clicking on it.
* Create a backup directory inside !MarcelDir.Files if you want.
* Rename your old signature file /signature to /sig
* Copy the following to !MarcelDir.Files:
!Sig
/signature (this is an obey file, unlike the original text file)
* Double click on !Sig and check that the file /sigfile has been created
as you require.
Operation ==============
Every time a new mail is edited, one of the signatures will be chosen.
The signatures to be chosen from are stored in one file - "sigmain" -
and each signature is separated by signature delimiters (two dashes, a
space and a line return, used by most mailers to denote the beginning of
the signature).
The 'fixed' part of the signature is now stored in a separate file-
"/sigmain".
To add / edit / remove signatures, simply edit the files "/sigmain" and
"sigmain"- to add a new signature to the pot, simply append it to the
end, and remember to include a signature delimiter in it.
History of this version =======================
1.0 Released into Acorn newsgroups (16.2.96) 1.1 Released from Ant ftp
site. This version generates sig files each time unlike the earlier
version which relied on an alteration to !Marcels !Run file.
(22.2.96)
1.2 Now word wraps long taglines. Now reads all Taglines including
the first. Removes old sigfiles which were building up in !Scrap.
(25.2.96)
1.232323
Stuart Bruce finds the program and decides to massacre it for his
own foul deeds. The program becomes a random sig-file generator,
rather than just a tagline generator. (7.12.96)
1.42
Waking up the next morning, he corrects some of the mistakes, and
makes the signatures be separated by signature delimiters (the
obvious choice) rather than TABs (the stupid man's unthinking
crumpet's choice). (8.12.96)
File is renamed !Sig to avoid confusion with !Tag which is still
very useful in its own right.
1.7
After a long time of forgetting to update the !Help file, the program
is released into the public domain, blah blah, etc. Oh yes, it also
undergoes a complete rewrite in Assembler by Andrew Berry.
1.8
A month or so later, just when it seems that all has been forgotten
and the millions will not be made, Robin Watts of Warm Silence Software
pops along and happens to mention that he's done a few alterations to
the program, including optimisation and the standard bit. OK.
