Have you seen the PC using Word 6 or Excel, or those other new Microsoft
applications ? Well if you haven't you won't know that if you leave the mouse
over a icon for a moment or two a little help icon appears saying what that
icon does. Useful, eh ?
You might, however, have heard of David Pilling's BubbleHelp program. This
does the same type of thing, only in a little speech bubble window.
I thought that this looked quite nice and so I began writing a simple program to immitate this. Ok, so I don't have the round corners, shadow or speech
arrow; but it works, and is quite neat.
Usage
-----
Load the application on to the icon bar, and click on the Menu item 'On'.
This will now be ticked and whenever the mouse is stationary for about a
second and a half, the Help window will appear. Small mouse movements whilst
the window is active will allow you to examine the surrounding icons.
However, sometimes this is not really very useful (eg when editting a text
document), so if you select On again the help will not appear if the mouse is
stationary.
Instead, press Alt-F12 to turn the automatic help on, and again to turn it
off. This time the help will follow the pointer around the screen.
Bugs
====
Currently, I don't know of any bugs, except that it is very slow to
update. This is probably due to the wasteful use of Wimp messages.
