  5. The following table shows which printer definition
  6. file to use with which Star printer, together with
  7. a brief indication of the DIP switch or control
  8. panel settings needed on the printer:

  54. The StarJet SJ-48 inkjet printer may alternatively
  55. be used with the IBM.Pro-X24E file if the DIP
  56. switches are set for IBM emulation mode (switch 1
  57. OFF). However, all resolutions above 180 by 180
  58. dpi will be interlaced whereas using Epson mode
  59. and the Canon.BJC-800 file gives full 360 by 360
  60. dpi non interlaced.

  62. The LaserPrinter 4, 4III and 8, 8III StarScript
  63. options can be used with Postscript files as well
  64. as HP files.
  65.  
  66. The "Star.DP-510" printer definition file is for
  67. the Star DP-510 printer. The maximum vertical
  68. resolution is specified in multiples of 1/144 inch 
  69. using ESC "3" on this printer (instead of the
  70. usual 1/216 inch) and so vertical interlacing is
  71. limited to two passes (144 dpi resolution). ISO
  72. Latin 1 text characters are obtained using the
  73. unusual range of top bit set characters available
  74. on this printer, plus some use of backspace
  75. over-printing and some use of Epson standard ESC
  76. "R" international character set selections. There
  77. is no use of double strike mode (ESC "G" and ESC
  78. "H") or superscripts and subscripts (ESC "S" and
  79. ESC "T") as there are some problems with this
  80. printer which make these features difficult if not
  81. impossible to use reliably.

  83. For the Star DP-510 DIP switch 3 must be OFF
  84. (select 8 bit interface) and DIP switch 4 must be
  85. OFF (no auto line feed on carriage return). In the
  86. unlikely event that you need auto line feed set to
  87. ON, then you can use !PrintEdit to remove the
  88. trailing ",10" from the "Line skip:", "Line end
  89. 1:" and "Line end 2:" fields in all the graphics
  90. resolutions.

  92. The "Star.LC-200" printer definition file is for
  93. the Star LC-200 Colour printer in standard
  94. emulation (EDS A-1 ON) and other similar Star 9
  95. pin printers. The graphics definitions are the
  96. same as the Epson.EX-800 file. The text
  97. definitions are the same as the Epson.LQ-860 file,
  98. except that the LC-200's ability to select IBM
  99. Code Page 850 (Multi-lingual) is used to print ISO
  100. Latin 1 top bit set characters. The Legal
  101. international character set (ESC "R" 64) is also
  102. used. You should not attempt to print in colour
  103. unless your printer has a colour ribbon installed.

  106. (above 120 by 72 DPI).

  108. The "Star.LC24-200" printer definition file is for
  109. the Star LC24-200 Colour printer in standard
  110. emulation (EDS A-1 ON) and other similar Star 24
  111. pin printers. The graphics definitions are the
  112. same as the Epson.LQ-860 file. The text
  113. definitions are also the same as the Epson.LQ-860
  114. file, except that the LC24-200's ability to select
  115. IBM Code Page 850 (Multi-lingual) is used to print
  116. ISO Latin 1 top bit set characters. The Legal
  117. international character set (ESC "R" 64) is also
  118. used. You should not attempt to print in colour
  119. unless your printer has a colour ribbon installed.

  124. The "Star.SJ-144" printer definition file is for
  125. use with the Star SJ-144 Colour printer. It
  126. consists of the graphics support from the
  127. Canon.BJC-800 file and the text support from the
  128. Star.LC24-200 file. The SJ-144 printer does work
  129. with the BJC-800 or BJC-600 files, but with the
  130. SJ-144 file you get better character mappings due
  131. to selecting Code Page 850 for top bit set
  132. characters.
