Welcome to
Passwords v1.02
Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Passwords is basically a simple macro type program I wrote to make my
own life easier. It provides a desktop window containing thirty
site icons, each of which can be linked to an ID and a Password.
Clicking on the large button with the site name on it, sends the
associated ID to the current active icon or application. Clicking on
the smaller button next to it enters the site Password.
It eliminates errors from typing passwords at websites and removes the
need to keep checking the passwords from a file or scrap of paper.
Passwords etc are held in a text file within the Resources directory.
This can be accessed, for altering or adding entries, from the iconbar
menu. Click the Menu button over the Icon and select 'Edit Entries'.
Site names are limited to twenty characters maximum, but ID's and
Passwords can be upto 256 characters long.
Entries take the form:
Description,ID,Password<RETURN>
eg: My Secret Site,gerbilpaws,dhftTF56T
IF a site requites just a password or ID you must substitute a blank
space or someother item.
eg: My Secret Site,*,fredhgyt
I've made no attempt to hide or encrypt the passwords since if they are
going to be entered into an icon the user is going to see them anyway.
Using Passwords
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You really want to read this?
1. Load !Passwords
2. A window opens on the screen containing ten icon buttons.
3. All icons containing text are in use. Blank ones wont do anything.
4. Put the text caret in the icon or window to which you want to send
the password.
5. Click on the button you want to use.
Adding Passwords
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Load !Passwords.
2. Click MENU over the iconbar icon, then click SELECT over Edit
Entries.
3. Solong as you have a text editor loaded a window will open
containing all the currently sroted descriptions and passwords.
4.Add a new one following the format.. 'description,password'
with each line terminated by a <RETURN>.
5. Save the file.
That's just about it. No clever functions, just a quick way to enter
passwords.
Bugs etc
~~~~~~~~
I'm no expert programmer so don't be surprised if you look at the code
and think it was written by a gerbil with a wooden leg. Passwords was
created purely to solve a problem I had, so there is almost bound to
be considerable room to improve the code :)
Tested on a StrongArm RiscPC. A5000 and an A4000 - no idea what it does on anything else.
