Help File for !InlayPrnt
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program enables the creation of inlay cards for audio cassettes. A
library of up to 100 inlays are held in a disk file and you can load
existing album tracks into the screen inlay, in which case they can be
edited, or else the details for a new album may be entered and then saved.
Once the inlay has been set up as required it may then be printed using
either condensed mode print (Epson control codes), or via drawfiles and
the RISC-OS printer drivers.
This application responds to the !Help application, displaying some useful
messages about the windows and icons used by the program.
The application has two windows which are both opened when a file is loaded
or the iconbar icon is clicked on with <SELECT>. The one titled 'InlayPrnt'
is the inlay editor where new inlays can be created or existing ones
modified. The 'Available Inlays' window shows the album titles and artists
contained in the currently loaded file. To edit an inlay drag it from the
'Available Inlays' to the 'InlayPrnt' window. Once edited drag either the
title or artist writeable icons back to the 'Available Inlays' window. Note
that this does not save the revised file back to disk - you must use the
'Save' choice on the 'Available Inlays' window menu to do do this. You will,
however, be warned if you try to quit without saving data.
Note that when entering data for an overlay you can move the input caret to
the next writeable icon with a <RETURN>. The down arrow key can also be used
for the same purpose and the up arrow key to moves the caret to the previous
one.
To make editing the inlays easier you can now drag the track titles around
in the editor. If the <SHIFT> key is held down while dragging the track is
moved, otherwise it is copied. Adding extra tracks in the middle of an inlay
or changing the order of the tacks is really easy now!
Versions from 2.00 onwards are rather easier to use (and conform to RISC-OS
conventions much more closely!) than previous versions. Although still
limited to 100 overlays per file you can now have multiple files with
loading and saving performed in the usual RISC-OS way.
The file format is unchanged from all previous versions, but the file type
must be set to &205 (unless you make changes to the main program, the !Run
file and the template file).
The initial sizes and positions of the two main windows may be altered by
editing the Template file using !FormEd.
DrawFile Output
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This allows a much better quality printout (especially on a laser printer!)
by using the standard RISC-OS printer drivers. However, there are a few
points that need to be observed.
1) Load a printer driver and set it for your printer .
2) Ensure that the filer has seen !System , !Draw and !Fonts.
e.g. display a filer directory of the root directory of
Application disk 1
3) Check you have some font space configured.
The sub menu of the 'Save DrawFile' option on the 'InlayPrnt' window is a
dialogue box that lets you enter a name for the drawfile. Clicking on 'OK'
or dragging the draw icon into a Filer window (or !Draw) saves the currently
displayed inlay in drawfile format. Multiple inlays can be dragged into
!Draw to print a selection on one page, although each inlay will need to be
dragged into the correct position once loaded into !Draw. It is also
possible to drag the icon directly to !PrinterDM (or whatever) to print the
file without saving it to disk.
Note that the font used is 'Courier' as it is uniformly spaced and everybody
should have it. The drawfile consists of up to four 'groups', one for the
inlay, one for the labels, one for the 'Option' string and one fot the
'Noise Reduction' text. This allows the labels to be printed on sticky
labels for attaching to the cassette, and for different fonts to be selected
if required in !Draw.
The 'Option' string is printed at the bottom of the inlay and can be used to
print your name and address, or other useful information. If the file
'Option' exists in the application directory then the first line is read in
and used when a DrawFile is output. Note that the line should end with a
line feed character (if !Edit is used to create the file just type <RETURN>
after entering the desired text). If the file cannot be found !InlayPrnt
creates its own little advertisment!
Note that if you are using !Draw1/2 instead of !Draw that there seems to be
a problem with the boundaries displayed for the grouped elements within the
inlay. The first inlay loaded is ok, but subsequent ones do not display the
correct boundaries. To overcome this, when the second inlay DrawFile is
loaded press CTRL-A to select everything and then position the pointer
inside the second inlay and press SELECT. When the hand pointer appears
release SELECT (this forces !Draw1/2 to redraw the boundaries correctly). At
the moment I am not sure if this is a problem with the !InlayPrnt DrawFiles
or !Draw1/2. The original !Draw does not have this problem.
The rendition of the overlay is rather simple and can be jazzed up by
altering PROCdrawfile in the !RunImage program if required. Note that
measurements used by PROCdrawline are in millimeters. Later versions of
!InlayPrnt may cater for different fonts etc via menu selections.
Thanks to C.T. Stretch for his !DrawStrip application which showed how to do
it, and Mark Bright whose icons I pinched from his !Cassette application
because they were much better than my feeble efforts!

In the absence of any comments I shall assume the program is perfect and get
on with something a bit more interesting!
Update History
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 2.00 - Follows RISC-OS guidelines much more closely. Load/Save by
dragging, more than one inlay file now allowed (file type
&205).
- Dragging also used to make editing inlays easier, template
file modified to include main windows.
Version 2.01 - Can now output inlays in drawfile format, either saved to disk
or dragged directly into !Draw (transfer of data by
<WimpScrap> method). Minor tidying up to main menu. New icons
for application and file icons.
Version 2.02 - Hitting <Return> in either of the save windows now has the
same effect as clicking on the 'OK' icon. Seem to have
forgotten this before!
- Improved interactive help added.
