  10. This chapter describes the rules about copying the RISC OS Forthmacs Working 
  11. Disk and presents some general information.

  18. My name is Hanno Schwalm.  I have ported Mitch Bradleys "Forthmacs 3.0" to ARM 
  19. based RISC OS computers and I do all support on this implementation.

  21. This file describes our policy about making and giving away copies of 
  22. RISC OS Forthmacs.  In general, you are free to give away copies of the <strong>original WorkDisc</strong> 
  23. archive subject to a few restrictions.  
  24. <p>
  25. Other Forthmacs-platforms include Apple-Macintosh, Atari, Sun-68k, OS-9 and 
  26. SPARC computers.  Your RISC OS Forthmacs is as portable to those implementations 
  27. as possible.

  76. <h2>Future versions</h2>
  77. <p>
  78. This RISC OS Forthmacs currently follows the Forth-83 standard in many ways, 
  79. it's code has been written with portability to other platforms and former 
  80. versions in mind.  It runs almost any software that has been written for 
  81. 'Forthmacs' before or needs very little re-coding.  
  82. <p>
  83. But as time goes by, RISC OS Forthmacs isn't really state of the art any more.  
  84. There will be updates available quite frequently as I permanently work on 
  85. RISC OS Forthmacs.  Things still to be done: 
  86. <p>
  87. - ANS standard Forth bindings.  
  88. <p>
  89. - integration in the WIMP environment supporting DDE, throwback and inter-task 
  90. communication.

  93. <h2>Site licence</h2>
  94. <p>
  95. A site licence for up to 30 computers in one room is also available for 100£ 
  96. plus 20£ per installation.

  106. Always tell your computer configuration, RISC OS Version and RISC OS Forthmacs 
  107. Version.

  110. <h2>Bugs</h2>
  111. <p>
  112. RISC OS Forthmacs is a very solid software.  I don't know of any bugs, but I 
  113. would be pretty surprised if a few aren't hiding in there somewhere.  If you 
  114. find one, send me a letter or mail (presumably after you have sent in your £40) 
  115. and I will probably fix it.  Keep in mind, though, that there is sometimes a 
  116. fine line between a "bug" and a "feature".  Also, in some cases the effort 
  117. required to fix something is way out of line with the benefits; in those cases 
  118. it's often better to find a workaround.  So, no guarantees, but I will do my 
  119. best to make RISC OS Forthmacs as bug-free as is practical.

  122. <h2>Licensing</h2>
  123. <p>
  124. Suppose that you develop software that runs under RISC OS Forthmacs and wish to 
  125. distribute your software along with RISC OS Forthmacs.  If you give away your 
  126. software, you may also give away a copy of RISC OS Forthmacs with it, so long as 
  127. you give away the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk", with nothing removed.  You 
  128. are free to put it on bulletin boards if you wish, again with the stipulation 
  129. that you put the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk" there.

  131. If you plan to sell your software, please get in touch with me so we can work 
  132. out a licensing agreement.  RISC OS Forthmacs may not be sold as part of any 
  133. system without a licensing agreement.  I will be willing to work out an 
  134. agreement that is fair to both of us.

  137. <h2>Sources</h2>
  138. <p>
  139. The complete RISC OS Forthmacs 3.0 sources plus the Metacompiler are available 
  140. for £40 (100DM or 70$).  
  141. <p>
  142. <strong>Note:</strong> Feel free to write your software using these sources but <strong>NEVER</strong> 
  143. give away these sources with your software.  Also think about Licensing.

  146. <h2>Copying Fees</h2>
  147. <p>
  148. If you normally charge a fee for making someone a copy of a disk, you may charge 
  149. the same fee for making a copy of the RISC OS Forthmacs Working Disc, <strong>WorkDisc</strong> 
  150. .  The fee must be based solely on the cost of making the copy, and must be the 
  151. same fee that you charge for a copy of any other disk.

  155. <p>
  156. Bradley Forthware and Hanno Schwalm shall have no liability or responsibility to 
  157. any person or entity with respect to any loss or damage caused or alleged to be 
  158. caused directly or indirectly by RISC OS Forthmacs.  This includes, but is not 
  159. limited to, any interruption of service, loss of business, loss of information 
  160. or that which is rendered inaccurate, or loss of anticipated profits or any 
  161. other consequential or incidental damages resulting from the use of 
  162. RISC OS Forthmacs, even if Bradley Forthware or Hanno Schwalm has been advised 
  163. of the possibility of such damages.
