  5. This chapter describes the rules about copying the RISC OS Forthmacs Working 
  6. Disk and presents some general information.

  14. My name is Hanno Schwalm.  I have ported Mitch Bradleys "Forthmacs 3.0" to ARM 
  15. based RISC OS computers and I do all support on this implementation.

  17. This file describes our policy about making and giving away copies of 
  18. RISC OS Forthmacs.  In general, you are free to give away copies of the 
  19. ORIGINAL WORKDISC archive subject to a few restrictions.  
  20.  
  21. Other Forthmacs-platforms include Apple-Macintosh, Atari, Sun-68k, OS-9 and 
  22. SPARC computers.  Your RISC OS Forthmacs is as portable to those 
  23. implementations as possible.

  30. RISC OS Forthmacs is copyrighted.  This means that we retain the ownership of 
  31. RISC OS Forthmacs.  However, we hereby give you permission to use, make and 
  32. give away copies of the RISC OS Forthmacs archive directory WORKDISC

  75. Future versions
  76. ===============

  78. This RISC OS Forthmacs currently follows the Forth-83 standard in many ways, 
  79. it's code has been written with portability to other platforms and former 
  80. versions in mind.  It runs almost any software that has been written for 
  81. 'Forthmacs' before or needs very little re-coding.  
  82.  
  83. But as time goes by, RISC OS Forthmacs isn't really state of the art any more.  
  84. There will be updates available quite frequently as I permanently work on 
  85. RISC OS Forthmacs.  Things still to be done: 
  86.  
  87. - ANS standard Forth bindings.  
  88.  
  89. - integration in the WIMP environment supporting DDE, throwback and inter-task 
  90. communication.

  93. Site licence
  94. ============

  96. A site licence for up to 30 computers in one room is also available for 100£ 
  97. plus 20£ per installation.

  103. All registered users ( those who paid for this program ) will be supported

  112. Bugs
  113. ====

  115. RISC OS Forthmacs is a very solid software.  I don't know of any bugs, but I 
  116. would be pretty surprised if a few aren't hiding in there somewhere.  If you 
  117. find one, send me a letter or mail (presumably after you have sent in your 
  118. £40) and I will probably fix it.  Keep in mind, though, that there is 
  119. sometimes a fine line between a "bug" and a "feature".  Also, in some cases 
  120. the effort required to fix something is way out of line with the benefits; in 
  121. those cases it's often better to find a workaround.  So, no guarantees, but I 
  122. will do my best to make RISC OS Forthmacs as bug-free as is practical.

  125. Licensing
  126. =========

  128. Suppose that you develop software that runs under RISC OS Forthmacs and wish 
  129. to distribute your software along with RISC OS Forthmacs.  If you give away 
  130. your software, you may also give away a copy of RISC OS Forthmacs with it, so 
  131. long as you give away the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk", with nothing 
  132. removed.  You are free to put it on bulletin boards if you wish, again with 
  133. the stipulation that you put the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk" there.

  135. If you plan to sell your software, please get in touch with me so we can work 
  136. out a licensing agreement.  RISC OS Forthmacs may not be sold as part of any 
  137. system without a licensing agreement.  I will be willing to work out an 
  138. agreement that is fair to both of us.

  144. The complete RISC OS Forthmacs 3.0 sources plus the Metacompiler are available 
  145. for £40 (100DM or 70$).  
  146.  
  147. NOTE: Feel free to write your software using these sources but NEVER give away 
  148. these sources with your software.  Also think about Licensing.

  151. Copying Fees
  152. ============

  154. If you normally charge a fee for making someone a copy of a disk, you may 
  155. charge the same fee for making a copy of the RISC OS Forthmacs Working Disc, 
  156. WORKDISC .  The fee must be based solely on the cost of making the copy, and 
  157. must be the same fee that you charge for a copy of any other disk.

  160. Liability

  163. Bradley Forthware and Hanno Schwalm shall have no liability or responsibility 
  164. to any person or entity with respect to any loss or damage caused or alleged 
  165. to be caused directly or indirectly by RISC OS Forthmacs.  This includes, but 
  166. is not limited to, any interruption of service, loss of business, loss of 
  167. information or that which is rendered inaccurate, or loss of anticipated 
  168. profits or any other consequential or incidental damages resulting from the 
  169. use of RISC OS Forthmacs, even if Bradley Forthware or Hanno Schwalm has been 
  170. advised of the possibility of such damages.
