!EasyMode - Replacement mode selector for RISC-OS 3.5
=====================================================
EasyMode is a short program which can be used in place of the RISC-OS 3.5
display manager. EasyMode provides everything implemented by the display
manager, except for the loading of new monitor definition files, and adds
keyboard shortcuts and a new way of selecting modes.
Clicking on the EasyMode icon in a filer window will install the application
on the icon bar.
Clicking SELECT or ADJUST over the iconbar icon will bring up a selection
window. In this window, the required mode can be selected using radio
buttons. If you click on the bottom button in the resolution section, the
two text boxes become available and you can enter the resolution required.
Clicking MENU on the iconbar icon or in the mode selector window brings up
a short menu from which a mode dialog similar to that provided by display
manager can be accessed.
EasyMode provides a number of keyboard shortcuts. These should be available
all the time EasyMode is running. They are:
Alt + F10 = Increase resolution by one step
Alt + F9 = Decrease resolution by one step
Alt + F12 = Increase colours
Alt + F11 = Decrease colours
In addition, you can set up your own shortcuts for keys Alt+F1 to Alt+F8 by
using the hotkeys window, available from the menu. To use this facility,
change to the mode for which you want to define a hotkey. Then bring up the
hotkeys window and press the set button on the right of the key you wish to
use. You should now see the current mode details displayed in the window.
Press
Cancel to restore the hotkey settings to their previous value,
Save to accept the displayed values and save them permanently or,
OK to accept the displayed values for the current session only.
NB. The hotkey settings can be reset by deleting the data file "HotKeys"
from the !EasyMode directory.
A final feature, available from the main menu, is the Auto Mode facility.
This facility is activated by ticking the menu item. Once active no other
program but EasyMode is allowed to change the mode. This is useful if you
have badly behaved non-desktop programs which use OSCLI "WimpMode" to change
mode but forget to change to the original mode on exit. In this situation
EasyMode restores the mode when control is returned to the desktop. The
state of this feature (ie. whether or not the Auto Mode item is ticked) is
saved when you save your hotkey settings.
