  34. DiscInfo provides extensive information on discs that reside under a FileCore
  35. based filing system (e.g. ADFS and RAMFS). In addition to 'dry numbers',
  36. DiscInfo also provides a graphical display of a disc's space allocation map.

  38. The information given by DiscInfo is very 'involved' and is therefore not
  39. explained here. For a good and thorough explanation, refer to the FileCore
  40. chapters of the Programmer's Reference Manuals for RISC OS 3 and up,
  41. available from Acorn.

  50. On DiscInfo's iconbar menu the usual 'Info' and 'Quit' icons can be found. In
  51. addition, 'Control' gives access to the 'DiscInfo control' window (click on
  52. 'Control' to make the window permanent). The 'DiscInfo control' window is
  53. described below.

  55. Clicking SELECT or ADJUST on DiscInfo's iconbar icon will open the 'DiscInfo
  56. on ...' window. The 'DiscInfo on ...' window is described below.

  65. In this window, you will find two parts, called 'Disc specification' and 'Log
  66. file'.
  67.  
  68. The 'Disc specification' part allows selection of the disc to be examined.
  69. The disc's filing system and drive number may be selected by clicking on the
  70. menu icon and selecting an entry.

  72. The 'Log file' part allows you to enable and select a log file. To enable the
  73. log file, ensure the option icon is ticked. The log file's filename may be
  74. entered in the writable field. Alternatively, a directory or file may be
  75. dragged from a filer window to the writable field. If a directory is dragged,
  76. the log file's filename will become 'Log' within that directory. If a file is
  77. dragged, the log file's filename will become the dragged file's filename.

  79. A log file will capture a textual version of all the information contained in
  80. the 'DiscInfo on ...' window.

  89. This window will display information on the disc selected in the 'DiscInfo
  90. control' window.

  92. The disc map is displayed graphically. Every map bit is represented by a
  93. single, coloured pixel. If a map bit corresponds to a part of an object, the
  94. pixel is white (object numbers >2) or cyan (object number 2). Free space bits
  95. are black. Defect bits (object number 1) are red.

  97. The disc map display may be zoomed in on by clicking on the 'up' and 'down'
  98. icons.
