- // Introduction
- //
- //
-
- DiscInfo provides extensive information on discs that reside under a FileCore
- based filing system (e.g. ADFS and RAMFS). In addition to 'dry numbers',
- DiscInfo also provides a graphical display of a disc's space allocation map.
-
- The information given by DiscInfo is very 'involved' and is therefore not
- explained here. For a good and thorough explanation, refer to the FileCore
- chapters of the Programmer's Reference Manuals for RISC OS 3 and up,
- available from Acorn.
-

- // Using DiscInfo
- //
- //
-
- On DiscInfo's iconbar menu the usual 'Info' and 'Quit' icons can be found. In
- addition, 'Control' gives access to the 'DiscInfo control' window (click on
- 'Control' to make the window permanent). The 'DiscInfo control' window is
- described below.
-
- Clicking SELECT or ADJUST on DiscInfo's iconbar icon will open the 'DiscInfo
- on ...' window. The 'DiscInfo on ...' window is described below.
-
-
- //
- //
- // The 'DiscInfo control' window
- //
- //
-
- In this window, you will find two parts, called 'Disc specification' and 'Log
- file'.
-
- The 'Disc specification' part allows selection of the disc to be examined.
- The disc's filing system and drive number may be selected by clicking on the
- menu icon and selecting an entry.
-
- The 'Log file' part allows you to enable and select a log file. To enable the
- log file, ensure the option icon is ticked. The log file's filename may be
- entered in the writable field. Alternatively, a directory or file may be
- dragged from a filer window to the writable field. If a directory is dragged,
- the log file's filename will become 'Log' within that directory. If a file is
- dragged, the log file's filename will become the dragged file's filename.
-
- A log file will capture a textual version of all the information contained in
- the 'DiscInfo on ...' window.
-
-
- //
- //
- // The 'DiscInfo on ...' window
- //
- //
-
- This window will display information on the disc selected in the 'DiscInfo
- control' window.
-
- The disc map is displayed graphically. Every map bit is represented by a
- single, coloured pixel. If a map bit corresponds to a part of an object, the
- pixel is white (object numbers >2) or cyan (object number 2). Free space bits
- are black. Defect bits (object number 1) are red.
-
- The disc map display may be zoomed in on by clicking on the 'up' and 'down'
- icons.
