  4. This is a player for films produced by Microsoft's Video for Windows package.
  5. Hopefully the user interface will be found, in the most, self explanatory.
  6. The only hidden feature is to loop on several films; this is achieved by
  7. drag-dropping extra films onto an already running window.  Best results are
  8. achieved when running in mode 21 or 28, since a four-colour dithering pattern
  9. is then used, although not a particularly good one (advice on this would be
  10. appreciated).  On machines that run slow in those modes, mode 40 or 15
  11. can be used, giving a two-colour dithering pattern.  Sixteen colour modes
  12. work but come out mostly in greys.

  14. I have chosen &071 as the file type of AVI films, which may conflict with
  15. other applications, but only the !Boot and !Run files depend on this choice,
  16. so you can change to another file-type code if necessary.

  18. This version supports only CRAM compressed video files.  It does not play
  19. sound tracks and may even fall over when attempting to play a film that has
  20. a sound track.  I would be grateful for any reports of such bugs, especially
  21. if accompanied by the film that showed up the bug.  CRAM was decoded by
  22. inspecting just four AVI films, and those four are the only films on which
  23. the player has been tested, so don't expect too much.  I intend, at some
  24. stage, to write a fuller and more robust version, and sell it for around
  25. ten pounds; anyone interested should email me.
