  8.  To be on the safe side, do not run this
  9.  application until AFTER Voyager has been
  10.  started up (otherwise it might not know where
  11.  Voyager expects the signature to be found).

  16.  How it works
  17.  ============
  18.  Inside the directory ‘!Voyager.User’ there can be a file called ‘Signature’,
  19.  and !Voyager can automatically append that to the end of your news/mail posts.
  20.  
  21.  Inside the directory ‘!Forger’ there is a directory called ‘Signatures’
  22.  which can contain up to ten different “signature” files.
  23.  
  24.  !Forger does not muck about with any program code inside !Voyager;  it merely
  25.  copies one of the files in ‘!Forger.Signatures.’ to ‘!Voyager.User.Signature’.

  27.  Installation and setting-up
  28.  ===========================
  29.  First, go into ‘!Voyager.User’ and see if you already have a ‘Signature’ file:
  30.  if you have, make a copy of it called ‘Signature0’ (to be on the safe side!)
  31.  
  32.  Copy the entire !Forger application to somewhere convenient where you can
  33.  easily access it (if you have the VIX version, see the separate VIX notes).

  35.  Double-click on the !Forger [Sign] icon to run it: 
  36.  it will install on the icon bar.
  37.  
  38.  Click (Select or Menu) on the icon-bar icon (once) to get its menu, and
  39.  click on the ‘Open SigDir’ item.
  40.  This will open the filer window of ‘!Forger.Signatures’.
  41.  
  42.  If this is the first time you have done this since installing !Forger,
  43.  there will be just two files in it:  ‘0None’ and ‘1Argonet’.
  44.  ‘0None’ is a blank dummy file for when you don’t want a signature at all
  45.  (and I recommend you keep this one). 
  46.  ‘1Argonet’ is an anonymous Argonaut signature included purely as an example;
  47.  If you double-click on it, it will load into !Edit (or whatever you have set
  48.  your default text editor to be) so you can see the idea --  you will probably
  49.  discard this (delete it) in favour of a signature of your own creation.

  51.  Adding/Creating signature files
  52.  ===============================
  53.  It is intended and recommended that the filename of each signature should
  54.  start with a digit from 0 to 9 and be followed by up to nine letters to form
  55.  a name which you will subsequently recognise.
  56.  
  57.  To start with, you will want your original signature to be available (the one
  58.  already in ‘!Voyager.User’ now called ‘Signature0’:  copy this into
  59.  ‘!Forger.Signatures’ as ‘1Standard’ (or a similar name).

  61.  Signature files are created in !Edit (or whatever you use/prefer instead);
  62.  please note that:
  63.  
  64.    For Usenet (newsgroup postings), good “netiquette” recommends that the
  65.    signature should be no longer than four lines;
  66.  
  67.    To ensure the signature “looks right”, do not use any top-bit-set characters
  68.    (keep to the ordinary keyboard characters with ASCII codes less than 127).

  70.  Running
  71.  =======
  72.  If the !Forger [Sign] icon is not already on the icon bar, double-click on
  73.  its icon in the directory in which it lives (or single-click on its icon
  74.  on !Voyager’s control panel if you have the VIX version).

  76.  If/when the !Forger [Sign] icon is on the icon bar, click once, with Select
  77.  or Menu, to open up its menu.  Then click on the item you want.

  79.  Please note that:

  81.    You can change your signature at any time, but the most appropriate time
  82.    is just before you “post” your item (by clicking on the “pillar-box” icon
  83.    in the mail/news composition window), because the signature file that
  84.    actually gets appended is the one which is current when you click on Post.

  86.    If you have just edited the contents of a signature file, you must
  87.    re-select it from !Forger’s menu (otherwise ‘!Voyager.User.Signature’
  88.    will still be the old version)
