- Balloon controlled flight simulator

-
- IT has been very difficult to think up a decent plot for this game. No-one expects someone
- to climb in a balloon and destroy enemy tanks, airfields or secret weapons!
-
- Due to worldwide peace treaties, our country has not used militairy forces since 2007.
- However, a neightbouring country is, despite the treaties, rapidly arming itself with the
- latest in modern militairy tank-technology, and is also expanding its airforce.
-
- Spies have informed us, that this country is planning an attack on our capital, to so
- destroy our land. The only means of battle on our side are the various balloons which
- are now being used for touristic purposes.
-
- A large-scaled attack is being planned by our Generals, but to succeed, the balloons must have
- safe entry to the enemy country. One balloon ( we can't afford to spend more ) must
- penetrate the enemy defences, and also stop any possible counter-attack.
-
- However, enemy forces will come out and try to destroy the balloon. Armed with just gas
- bombs, it'll face numerous tanks, helicopters and missiles. Also, as a balloon, movement
- is by heating the air in the balloon, which uses large amounts of gas. Floating in the air,
- fortunately, is the latest BalloonBase, which will supply the gas.
-
- Playing Balloon Invaders
-
- Playing Balloon Invaders is very simple. Use the keyboard to move the balloon left and
- right, to thrust upwards and downwards and to fire gas bombs. The computer-controlled
- enemy forces consist of tanks and artillery units, and helicopters. When hit by a bullet
- or missile, the balloon will lose some of its gas tanks. When no gas is left, it'll fall
- down. When hit another time from then on, the balloon will be destroyed.
-
- Balloon Invaders consists of various missions, ten in total. These include intercepting
- cargo trucks, shooting down freighter helicopters, and rescueing persons.
-
- To select a mission, fly to the Base and press Space to enter it. In the base, use the
- mouse
- to control the mouse pointer. Clicking with any button on certain parts of the screen will
- llow you to select a mission or get back to the battlefield. Click on the up-sign to get
- back.
- Click on the clock at the right wall to select a mission.
-
- After having clicked on the clock, a menu appears, with the ten missions described in brief.
- Selecting any mission with the mouse will also give you more detailed information.
- Completed missions are not selectable.
-
- You can only press Space when a mission has been completed. The base also acts as a safe
- zone.
-
- The controls are :
-
- Z - Move left
- X - Move right
- Return - Shoot
- Space - enter base ( when landed on base ), throw object
- Tab - Take photo ( special missions only )
- Shift - Thrust up
- F12 - Back to desktop
-
- Balloon Invaders features some special effects, including horizontal and vertical parallax
- scrolling and correctly calculated sound volume.
-
- Balloon Invaders will work on all machines from 1mb upwards, but it does require RISC-OS 3,
- and can only be run un-archived. An added bonus is that balloon invaders installs itself onto
- the Iconbar and can then be started by clicking on the iconbar icon.
