  1. This is !Statistix, version 1.3  (29 September 1996)

  3. Intro 
  4. ========= 
  5. This program performs limited statistical analysis of data.
  6. It can contain two data banks only.
  7.  
  8. It performs the following tasks.
  9.  
  10. 1. Descriptive, data is available, about these two data sets. 
  11. 2. A significance difference test can be performed on the two sets. 
  12. 3. The first of these two sets can be analysed to find its' frequency        
  13. distribution, and the resulting data can be saved as a CSV file , or           
  14. displayed as a histogram, which can also be displayed as a drawfile.

  16. Starting 
  17. ========= 
  18. Double clicking on the icon bar or dragging a suitable
  19. CSV file to it opens the main window.
  20.  
  21. Four methods are available for data input, being accessed from the four
  22. large slab icons towards the top of the windows.
  23.  
  24. 1. Dragging in CSV or suitable text files.
  25. 2. Data can be entered from the keyboard.
  26. 3. Random numbers can be generated from the program
  27. 4. Random numbers, being bunched nearest to their mean can be generated.

  29. Having entered at least one set of data by one of the above means, a window
  30. opens for each set of data. The program won't allow you to load more than
  31. two files.

  33. The data windows, each have a menu that allows you to perform the
  34. statistical operations on them. You can also save the files in CSV format.
  35.  
  36. Significance Difference Tests 
  37. ============================== 
  38. These can only
  39. be performed when each of the data banks is occupied. The tests are suitable
  40. for comparing small data sets. A window displays the confidence limits that
  41. the sets show differences.

  43. Paramaters 
  44. ========== 
  45. Descriptive variables such as mean and standard
  46. deviation are displayed.

  48. Frequency Distribution 
  49. ====================== 
  50. This can only be performed on
  51. data set 1. The program works out some sensible limits for the sets it is
  52. counting. These can be overidden, from the Frequency Distribution Window,
  53. but you will not be able to choose limits that give more than 20 divisions.

  55. Uses 
  56. ===== 
  57. There is a good set of statistics packages on RiscOS, and this
  58. one is limited. The components were originally conceived on the Beeb for use
  59. in school. The significance tests were for comparing small sets of data.
  60. This included studying areas of different facing walls for lichen cover.
  61.  
  62. The histograms were used to enter such measurements as the height of pupils.
