A fuse is a safety device to stop too much electricity flowing through a cable or appliance. It is important to choose the correct fuse. If the fuse is too small it will blow (melt) immediately. If the fuse is too big you risk too much electricity flowing if there is a surge of power, in which case your appliance could be damaged, or more seriously, the cables get hot and a fire could start.
This application has a range of appliances you can choose from. Click on one of them with the left hand mouse button and the details will be entered into the simulation section in the top right corner. You then have to choose a fuse to insert into the circuit. Click on one from the selection in the fuse section. To help you out, there is also a calculation section which calculates the current drawn by the appliance. The fuse you choose should be the next size up from this value.
NOTE: Although only a picture of a plug is used, fuses greater than 13 amps are only used in a distribution board, NOT IN THE PLUG ITSELF.
When you have chosen an appliance and a fuse for it, click on the "Switch on" icon and see what happens. If you have made a mistake, just chhose a new fuse and try again. There is no need to reset unless you want everything cleared to start again.
