  1.                     Guide for Assist_2: Balncing Equations

  4. Introduction
  5. ------------
  6. This application will enable you to produce a variety of worksheets based on
  7. balancing equations. It was designed for school use to fulfil three roles:
  8.  
  9. a) a source of material for homework
  10. b) revision aid
  11. c) generate material quickly for a 'fill in lesson' if a colleagues absent
  12.  
  13. You can produce four types of worksheets:
  14. a) a number needs to be inserted in order to balance the equation
  15. b) one of the products of a reaction is missing
  16. c) students must state if an equation is balanced properly or not
  17. d) one of the reactants of a reaction is missing
  18.  
  19. Questions are selected from a bank of questions, and different items within
  20. an equation are selected each time. This means that each time you print a
  21. particular worksheet it will be different.

  23. Using Assist_2: Equations
  24. -------------------------
  25. The Trinity.Medium font will need to been have 'seen' by the system. Note
  26. also that Assist requires RISC OS 3 or greater to run.

  28. Load by double clicking, then click on the icon bar to open the Assist_2
  29. window. The program works as a series of stages, move between each stage by
  30. clicking on the Next & Back buttons after you have made your selections.

  32. Registration
  33. ------------
  34. This software is shareware - you try it before you buy it. You may use it
  35. for up to 30 days to evaluate its potential. If you continue to use it
  36. after then you must register it by sending a cheque for 9.99 to the address
  37. below. Print your name and address clearly, state who/what organisation
  38. you want the application registerd to & the name of the application (ie
  39. Assist_2: Balancing Equations).
  40.  
  41. By registering you will receive a new copy of the application, with the
  42. unregistered windows that pop up removed. You can also be kept up to date
  43. with new applications as they become available. There is nothing to force
  44. you to register - but if you continue to use it beyond 30 days you are
  45. being dishonest and jepardise future releases.

  75. Shown below is a brief description (E & O.E) of applications by the same
  76. author. Virtually all are of an educational nature, running under the WIMP.
  77. Most work on RISC OS 2, all work on RISC OS 3.
  78.  
  79. Geography:
  80. * Where & Grid - Designed for Key Stage 3, Where & Grid are two
  81.   complementary applications. They test locations of countries (Europe &
  82.   Africa), towns, counties (UK only) rivers, montains, bearings, four and
  83.   six figure grid references. Currently the set covers the UK, Europe
  84.   & Africa.
  85. * OS_Symbols - Designed for Key Stage 3, OS_Symbols tests knowledge of a
  86.   range of OS Map symbols. A particular symbol is displayed and the correct
  87.   description must be found - time limits can be set.
  88. * Forecast - Produce your own weather maps just like on TV with symbols and
  89.   isobars. Variety of maps supplied; wind chill can be determined.
  90. * Predict - Predict the weather for the next 24 hours by supplying data
  91.   such are pressure and wind direction.
  92. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game, where all the words are connected
  93.   with Key Satge 3 geography.

  95. Science:
  96. * Circuit symbols - Tests knowledge of circuit and electronic symbols
  97.   against the clock.
  98. * Assist: Science AT4 - Produce a wide range of worksheets for topics on 
  99.   AT4. Each topic has a wide range categories including word searches,
  100.   crosswords, True or False, Anagrams and Missing words. Worksheets are
  101.   created from a databank, so they are different each time they are printed.
  102. * Assist: Equations - Produce four types of worksheets based on chemical
  103.   equations. Categories are Balancing equations, Missing product, Missing
  104.   reactant and Right or Wrong. Because a databank is used, worksheets are
  105.   different each time they are printed.
  106. * Assist: Periodic Table - Print a customised Periodic Table. Displayed data
  107.   can include mass number, density, boiling point, melting point,
  108.   radioactive isotopes, atomic radius, atomic volume, covalent radius,
  109.   ionisation energy, & electronegativity. Graphs and periodic trends can
  110.   also be produced.
  111. * Periodic Table - Click on a particular element to display relevant data. 
  112. * ArcMedia: Space - A simple hypermedia system on the Solar System. Designed
  113.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. Variety of NASA images.
  114. * Multiple Choice Chemistry - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  115.   pictures) covering GCSE Chemistry. Time limits can be set.
  116. * Multiple Choice Physics - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  117.   pictures) covering GCSE Physics. Time limits can be set.

  119. Word Puzzles:
  120. * Word Search - Application for creating word searches. Control over grid
  121.   size, displayed fonts, grid shape & borders is provided.
  122. * Do Search - Compliments the Word Search application. Data files from Word
  123.   Search can be dragged into Do Search, allowing the word search to be done
  124.   on screen
  125. * X-Word - Creates and prints crosswords from words and clues provided by
  126.   the user. Control over grid size, displayed fonts & borders is provided.
  127. * Do-Word - Compliments the X-Word application. Data files from X-Word can
  128.   be dragged into Do Word, allowing the crossword to be done on screen.
  129. * Anagram - Reconstruct the jumbled up word by solid dragging of the
  130.   letters. Hint feature is also provided.
  131. * Guess - Guess the word chosen by the computer. Hint feature provided.
  132. * Bottle - Hangman type game, but with bottles. Hints also provided.
  133. * Cloze - Removes words (user can determine how many) from a passage of
  134.   text. User must then reconstruct the entire text by entering words into
  135.   gaps in the text. Add your own passages of text easily. Summary can be
  136.   printed.

  138. Picture Puzzles:
  139. * Blocksaw - Jigsaw type application, using blocks for the pieces. Accepts
  140.   sprite and draw files. Size of the grid can be varied to cover a wide
  141.   range of abilities.
  142. * Tile - Picture is broken into a series of tiles, and then the tiles mixed
  143.   up. The picture must be recreated by swapping tiles. Uses sprite or draw
  144.   files; allows the number of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty
  145.   levels.
  146. * Slide - Sliding block puzzle. Uses sprite or draw files; allows the number
  147.   of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty levels.
  148. * Rows n Cols - Recreate a picture (either sprite or draw) by sliding rows
  149.   or columns into their correct positions.

  151. Miscellaneous:
  152. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game for up to three players. Database
  153.   can be easily modified to include your own words.
  154. * Multiple Choice (General) - Multiple choice quiz, some with pictures. Many
  155.   general knowledge topics covered. Editor also available so you can create
  156.   your own tests.
  157. * Multiple Choice Maths - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  158.   pictures) covering GCSE Maths. Time limits can be set.
  159. * ArcMedia (Cats) - A simple hypermedia system on the Cat Family. Designed
  160.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. 
  161. * Word Tester - Tests knowledge of the correct word for numbers from one to
  162.   one hundred in various languages. Played against the clock.
  163. * Facemaker - Use your computer to design a face, then either print or
  164.   export as a sprite file.
  165. * Desktop Turtle - Create on screen graphics with a 'Turtle' within a
  166.   desktop window. Wide range of commands supported including numeric
  167.   variables as well as sprites and sounds. Other features include variable
  168.   line thickness, auto symmetry and backdrops.
