  1.                     Guide for Assist_1: Periodic Table

  4. Introduction
  5. ------------
  6. This application will enable you to produce a customised periodic table as
  7. well as property trends and graphical displays of periodic properties. Thus
  8. it can be used to generate a table suitable for all levels of pupils, right
  9. up to A level. Since it is possible to place a large amount of inmformation
  10. onto your table at any one time then text is often small - you will really
  11. need a good quality printer (eg inkjet/bubblejet or laser) to get the most
  12. out of this application.

  14. Using Assist_1: Periodic Table
  15. ------------------------------
  16. The Trinity.Medium font will need to been have 'seen' by the system. Note
  17. also that Assist requires RISC OS 3 or greater to run.

  19. Load by double clicking, then click on the icon bar to open the Assist_1
  20. window. The program works as a series of stages, move between each stage by
  21. clicking on the Next & Back buttons after you have made your selections.

  23. Registration
  24. ------------
  25. This software is shareware - you try it before you buy it. You may use it
  26. for up to 30 days to evaluate its potential. If you continue to use it
  27. after then you must register it by sending a cheque for 7.99 to the address
  28. below. Print your name and address clearly, state who/what organisation
  29. you want the application registerd to & the name of the application (ie
  30. Assist_1: Periodic Table).

  32. By registering you will receive a new copy of the application, with the
  33. unregistered windows that pop up removed. You can also be kept up to date
  34. with new applications as they become available. There is nothing to force
  35. you to register - but if you continue to use it beyond 30 days you are
  36. being dishonest and jepardise future releases.

  66. Shown below is a brief description (E & O.E) of applications by the same
  67. author. Virtually all are of an educational nature, running under the WIMP.
  68. Most work on RISC OS 2, all work on RISC OS 3. 
  69.  
  70. Geography:
  71. * Where & Grid - Designed for Key Stage 3, Where & Grid are two
  72.   complementary applications. They test locations of countries (Europe &
  73.   Africa), towns, counties (UK only) rivers, montains, bearings, four and
  74.   six figure grid references. Currently the set covers the UK, Europe
  75.   & Africa.
  76. * OS_Symbols - Designed for Key Stage 3, OS_Symbols tests knowledge of a
  77.   range of OS Map symbols. A particular symbol is displayed and the correct
  78.   description must be found - time limits can be set.
  79. * Forecast - Produce your own weather maps just like on TV with symbols and
  80.   isobars. Variety of maps supplied; wind chill can be determined.
  81. * Predict - Predict the weather for the next 24 hours by supplying data
  82.   such are pressure and wind direction.
  83. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game, where all the words are connected
  84.   with Key Satge 3 geography.

  86. Science:
  87. * Circuit symbols - Tests knowledge of circuit and electronic symbols
  88.   against the clock.
  89. * Assist: Science AT4 - Produce a wide range of worksheets for topics on 
  90.   AT4. Each topic has a wide range categories including word searches,
  91.   crosswords, True or False, Anagrams and Missing words. Worksheets are
  92.   created from a databank, so they are different each time they are printed.
  93. * Assist: Equations - Produce four types of worksheets based on chemical
  94.   equations. Categories are Balancing equations, Missing product, Missing
  95.   reactant and Right or Wrong. Because a databank is used, worksheets are
  96.   different each time they are printed.
  97. * Assist: Periodic Table - Print a customised Periodic Table. Displayed data
  98.   can include mass number, density, boiling point, melting point,
  99.   radioactive isotopes, atomic radius, atomic volume, covalent radius,
  100.   ionisation energy, & electronegativity. Graphs and periodic trends can
  101.   also be produced.
  102. * Periodic Table - Click on a particular element to display relevant data. 
  103. * ArcMedia: Space - A simple hypermedia system on the Solar System. Designed
  104.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. Variety of NASA images.
  105. * Multiple Choice Chemistry - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  106.   pictures) covering GCSE Chemistry. Time limits can be set.
  107. * Multiple Choice Physics - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  108.   pictures) covering GCSE Physics. Time limits can be set.

  110. Word Puzzles:
  111. * Word Search - Application for creating word searches. Control over grid
  112.   size, displayed fonts, grid shape & borders is provided.
  113. * Do Search - Compliments the Word Search application. Data files from Word
  114.   Search can be dragged into Do Search, allowing the word search to be done
  115.   on screen
  116. * X-Word - Creates and prints crosswords from words and clues provided by
  117.   the user. Control over grid size, displayed fonts & borders is provided.
  118. * Do-Word - Compliments the X-Word application. Data files from X-Word can
  119.   be dragged into Do Word, allowing the crossword to be done on screen.
  120. * Anagram - Reconstruct the jumbled up word by solid dragging of the
  121.   letters. Hint feature is also provided.
  122. * Guess - Guess the word chosen by the computer. Hint feature provided.
  123. * Bottle - Hangman type game, but with bottles. Hints also provided.
  124. * Cloze - Removes words (user can determine how many) from a passage of
  125.   text. User must then reconstruct the entire text by entering words into
  126.   gaps in the text. Add your own passages of text easily. Summary can be
  127.   printed.

  129. Picture Puzzles:
  130. * Blocksaw - Jigsaw type application, using blocks for the pieces. Accepts
  131.   sprite and draw files. Size of the grid can be varied to cover a wide
  132.   range of abilities.
  133. * Tile - Picture is broken into a series of tiles, and then the tiles mixed
  134.   up. The picture must be recreated by swapping tiles. Uses sprite or draw
  135.   files; allows the number of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty
  136.   levels.
  137. * Slide - Sliding block puzzle. Uses sprite or draw files; allows the number
  138.   of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty levels.
  139. * Rows n Cols - Recreate a picture (either sprite or draw) by sliding rows
  140.   or columns into their correct positions.

  142. Miscellaneous:
  143. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game for up to three players. Database
  144.   can be easily modified to include your own words.
  145. * Multiple Choice (General) - Multiple choice quiz, some with pictures. Many
  146.   general knowledge topics covered. Editor also available so you can create
  147.   your own tests.
  148. * Multiple Choice Maths - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  149.   pictures) covering GCSE Maths. Time limits can be set.
  150. * ArcMedia (Cats) - A simple hypermedia system on the Cat Family. Designed
  151.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. 
  152. * Word Tester - Tests knowledge of the correct word for numbers from one to
  153.   one hundred in various languages. Played against the clock.
  154. * Facemaker - Use your computer to design a face, then either print or
  155.   export as a sprite file.
  156. * Desktop Turtle - Create on screen graphics with a 'Turtle' within a
  157.   desktop window. Wide range of commands supported including numeric
  158.   variables as well as sprites and sounds. Other features include variable
  159.   line thickness, auto symmetry and backdrops.
  160. * Birthday & Today. Produce an A4 sized poster on events taking place in
  161.   history either on your Birthday or any particular day. Information
  162.   displayed includes Famous Birthdays on the same day, events, films, songs
  163.   and sporting events. Variety of borders/watermarks provided.
