- What Does It Do?
- ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
- Rename F is an application for use renaming a large group of files. This can
- be particularly useful when porting pictures etc. from CD's - especially
- where the name format is a foreign one, ie. from PC CD's.
-
- I recently ported a lot of pictures from CD's - many of particular movies.
- Instead of the original name I wanted to rename them sequentially with a
- simpler name.
-
- For example, I had many pictures taken from the movie "The Crow" - where the
- filenames were CR30482, CR30487 etc... although I suspect they were numbered
- sequentially - I didn't have the full set and thus wanted to rename them to
- a 'nicer' name ... something like "TheCrow-01", "TheCrow-02" etc ...
-
- After manually renaming a couple of files I decided it was time to write a
- simple application to do this for me, hence Rename F was coded!
-
- Usage
- ¨¨¨¨¨
- Load the application in the usual way by simply double clicking it. The
- Rename F icon should then be present on the icon bar. Clicking 'Select' over
- it brings up the main control window.
-
- There are three main inputs which you can change. The first of these is
- the 'Main Name' for the renamed files. This defaults to 'Stuart' (why not ...
- I wrote it!) but can obviously be changed to what you like. The second
- option is the 'Start Number', this is the number which will be given to the
- first renamed file, this gets incremented after every rename. The final
- option is the number of preceding zero's you wish to have preceding the
- number. This is particularly useful if you are renaming a large number of
- files and you want the filer to display them in the correct order. The up
- and down arrows can be used to update both the Start Number and the
- Preceding Zero's counter. Finally, the 'Proceed' icon okay's your selections
- and removes the control window.
-
- To rename a file, simply drag it to the Rename icon on the icon bar. Single
- files can be dragged, or you may select as many files as you wish to rename
- using the standard method, usually clicking 'cancel' over the files you
- wish to select or alternatively dragging a box around them using the 'select'
- button.
-
- Please note that the output filename will be the main name with a hyphen
- character inserted between that and the file number (remembering the number
- of preceding zero's you have selected). Obviously, the ADFS filename limit
- of 10 characters still applies. This program does support Jason Tribeck's
- !Longfiles application enabling longer names to be used. This should be
- available from most bulletin boards.

- Future Updates
- ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
- I'm planning on adding a DOS extension stripping utility to it. I know there
- are other applications that do this, but I've not seen a reliable one yet and
- I may as well add support for that with Rename F.
