  1. New Secure Flag in LogFS v1.20
  2. ------------------------------

  4. The Filer Windows in RiscOs are very powerful and
  5. serve the following functions:-
  6.  
  7.     • Launch applications.
  8.     • Destination for Save drags.
  9.     • Housekeeping (Copy, Rename, Delete, etc.)
  10.     
  11. LogFS is designed primarily to replace the first
  12. function. Unfortunately the Housekeeping functions
  13. may be abused either maliciously or unintentionally.
  14. When LogFS is in Secure mode it goes some way in 
  15. restricting the unlimited access which RiscOs 
  16. provides.
  17.  
  18. Secure mode LogFS does 3 things for you:-
  19.  
  20.     • Clicking Shift-Double-Click on an application
  21.       no longer works, does not open the underlying
  22.       directory.
  23.       
  24.     • Clicking Shift-Double-Click on an application
  25.       in a filer window no longer works.
  26.       
  27.     • Any Directories opened by clicking on a 
  28.       directory icon on any card will open a
  29.       'rooted' filer window, that is the 'Open Parent'
  30.       entry on its menu will be greyed out and an
  31.       Adjust-Click on the Close Icon will not open
  32.       the parent directory. Directories below the
  33.       rooted directory will behave as normal.
  34.       
  35.     • Only one rooted parent directory will be opened
  36.       at once (many child directories may be
  37.       opened). When a new root directory is opened
  38.       all the filer windows for the previous root
  39.       will automatically close.
  40.       
  41.     • Alt & Alt-Shift dragging are disabled.
  42.       
  43. To turn the secure option on you have to edit the 
  44. settings file by inserting the line "Flags=Secure;"
  45. near the top of the file.

  47. Of course this security is worth nothing if the
  48. Hard Disk icon is on the Icon Bar, the user can 
  49. just click on this to get access to the whole
  50. disk!!. To remove this icon just type:-
  51.  
  52.     RMKILL SCSIFiler      or
  53.     RMKILL IDEFiler       or
  54.     RMKILL ADFSFiler (will also remove floppy icon)
  55.     
  56.     depending on what filing system your hard disk
  57. uses. LogFS and all other applications will continue
  58. to work normally. Do not RMKILL Filer itself or 
  59. they won't!!

  61. Access to the whole disk is still available from
  62. the command line, but there are several utilities
  63. which block access to this.
