  5. This means that you can copy this program to anyone you like, but if you
  6. find the program useful, you should register, as explained below. This
  7. entitles you to the latest version of this program, and of all my other
  8. applications.

  23. Purpose
  24. -------
  25. A replacement for Acorns !Chars application, with the added benefits of
  26. optional installing on the icon bar, a zoom window for improved visibility of
  27. characters, and the option of turning off shift-insertion of characters.

  29. To use
  30. ------
  31.    Double click on the icon in the filer window. This will open a window
  32. which looks almost identical to Acorn's own !Chars. Pressing menu (the middle
  33. mouse button) will make the differences more obvious. The menu contains the
  34. normal 'Info' and 'Quit' options, but in addition there are 'Font' and
  35. 'Options' selections. The 'Font' option leads to a sub-menu from where it is
  36. possible to change the font displayed in the main window. Selecting 'Options'
  37. will open a separate window, where it is possible to configure how !ZoomChars
  38. runs. The choices are :
  39.       SHIFT inserts characters : turning this off will mean that pressing
  40.          shift over the !ZoomChars main window does not insert the character
  41.          into the keyboard buffer.
  42.       Install on icon bar : turning this on will mean that the ZoomChars icon
  43.          is installed on the icon bar, as is normal with RISC-OS
  44.          applications. The main window may then be closed, and reopened
  45.          simply by clicking select on the icon on the icon bar. If this icon
  46.          bar option is selected, the 'Info', 'Options...' and 'Quit' menu
  47.          selections are only available from the icon bar, and clicking menu
  48.          on the main window only allows the font to be changed.
  49.       Zoom window : This is an extension to Acorn's !Chars application. It
  50.          offers a bigger display of the character under the pointer in the
  51.          main window. It can be set up in two ways - either to only open if
  52.          the adjust button is pressed on the main window, or alternatively,
  53.          to be permanently open and constantly reflect the character under
  54.          the pointer.
  55.    Selecting 'Update' on the options window will update the options, and they
  56. will stay the same until they are changed, or the program quit. Selecting
  57. 'Cancel' will ignore any modifications which may have been made to the
  58. settings, and selecting 'Save' will save the configuration to a file
  59. !Configure inside the !ZoomChars application, and so the settings will be the
  60. same even when the program is quit and reloaded.
  61.    Finally, the program counts its errors and their time intervals. If it has
  62. to report five errors, each one being within two seconds of the previous one,
  63. then the program will kill itself. This solves (hopefully!) the problems of
  64. an unbreakable error loop.

  77. programs, and if you do so you can deduct 50p from the price. Registering
  78. entitles you to upgrade to later versions of the same programs and to get new
