INTRODUCTION...
XLock is a screensaver for the enviroment where you have to leave your
machine every now and again, but you don't want people looking and fiddling,
and you don't want to burn the desktop into your monitor.
XLock is two screensavers in one. There is a standard one, that turns on
after a certain delay of inactivity, and there is one that you specifically
activate and requires a password before the machine can be used again.
Practically everything is configurable, even to the point of being able to
turn off both screensavers, thus making XLock completely useless!
GETTING STARTED...
Load XLock in the usual way by double-clicking. Note: load it in your boot
sequence to use all the time.
After one minute the screen should blank. This is the standard
screensaver. Move the mouse, or press a key or mouse button to return to the
desktop.
Note: both screensavers multitask with all your other applications, so if
you are raytracing or doing calculations for example, then they will
continue unhindered.
The standard screensaver can be turned on immediately by putting the mouse
pointer in the top-left of the screen.
If you put it in the top-right, then the screensaver is disabled until
you move the pointer away from the corner.
Click on the XLock icon and the screensaver will turn on as usual.
However, this is the password protected one, and when you return to the
desktop by pressing a key or moving the mouse, a window will appear.
Enter the password into the writeable icon and you can return to using the
machine. Enter a wrong password, and the screensaver turns on again.
While the password window is on the screen, all the other applications are
still running, but you can't use them because the pointer is trapped in the
password window.
The password appears as stars so nobody can look over at your screen and
see it.
CONFIGURING...
From the iconbar menu, choose 'Config...'. The configuration window will
appear. From the top:
General
Choose the saver by clicking on the icon to the right (depicting a menu).
They all do different things when the screensaver turns on.
Note: Scroll and Rotate require the Trinity Medium font. If it is not
found then nothing will appear on the screen.
If the saver requires a parameter, then the writeable icon below will
become un-greyed. For example, the Scroll saver requires a line of text to
scroll across the screen. Enter it here.
Normal SS
If you want to use the standard screensaver, then turn it on by ticking
the 'On' icon.
Click on the bump icons to change the delay before the screensaver
automagically 'kicks' in.
Locked SS
If you want to use the password protected screensaver, then turn it on by
ticking the 'On' icon.
Enter the password into the writeable icon. Note: it is case sensitive.
If 'Click with Select' is on then a click with Select on the XLock icon
turns on the screensaver. 'Click with Adjust' does the same for Adjust.
Turning the Adjust on can be useful in that it stops you accidently
turning the screensaver on when trying to click on another iconbar icon.
To save and use the configuration, click on 'Save'. Clicking on 'OK'
simply uses them now.
