Use of this software package is to the terms of the End User Licence Conditions
at the end of this document.
Introduction
============
This release note describes:
* what to do users of !SafeDel or !DDD (published by Risc User magazine),
* upgrading from older versions of Wacky−Talky,
* installing !WT application,
* features of Wacky−Talky version 0.70 (23rd January 1995) which have not
been covered elsewhere,
* operation aspects which allow users to make the best use of this software
known problem areas within the software.
Wacky−Talky version 0.70 has not been tested for use in safety critical
applications.
If you would like to get detailed information about this software, you can
refer to !Manual.

The following items are included in Wacky−Talky package:
* two archives
the 1st archive (named 'WT_070') contains:
* !SysUpdate for updating !System application
* !WTInstall for installing WT in floppy disc
or hard disc based systems

the 2nd archive (named 'WTsupport') contains:
* Examples for helping writing WT modules
* Documents full information for wtritting WT modules
Target Systems
==============
Although the installation of !WT application may be impossible on floppy disc
systems with 1Mb RAM, Wacky−Talky will run on Acorn and BBC computer systems
fitted with at least 512K of RAM and RISC OS operating system (version 2.00 or
later).
What to do users of !SafeDel or !DDD (published by Risc User magazine)
======================================================================
If you use !SafeDel or !DDD or you just have them, delete them, they are
oblosute. Their newer versions can be found in directory 'Utilities'. It is
important to upgrade them since the 'Claim' module that they are using is
incompatible with Wacky−Talky and that may cause troubles. To use their new
versions you have to install !WT application as described below.
Upgrading from older versions of Wacky−Talky
============================================
If you are one of the people who already use a beta version of Wacky−Talky,
you will have to do the following:
1. remove any possible related command with Wacky−Talky from your
Boot~sequence (also, remove from your !Boot any application that
uses Wacky−Talky)
2. reset your computer
3. read the next three sections of this release note to install the
new version of Wacky−Talky.
NOTE: Upgrades from version 0.70 an above will be made automatically with
!WTInstall application.
Installing Wacky−Talky
======================
(If you have problems while installing, see below at 'Possilible errors while
installing or using !WT application')
Hard disc users
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To install !WT just run !WTInstall application.
Floppy disc users with more than 1Mb RAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To install !WT:
1. Create a RAM disc with size 256K,
2. copy into RAM disc: !WT and !WTInstall from archive,
3. insert a system disc with 192K free space,
4. run !WTInstall from RAM disc.
Floppy disc users with one 1Mb RAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Try upgrading your machine first. A hard disc and some memory is a good start.
Possible errors while installing or using !WT application
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(possible installation errors)
Error: 'Not enough free memory'
!SparkFS' memory is too little. Click with ADJUST on the icon of SparkFS
in iconbar, increase 'Min' memory up to 192K and retry.
Error: 'Disc full'
Your hard (or floppy) disc is full. Delele some files (there must be about 192K
in free space to install !WT) then retry.
Note: If you get this error when there is space in your disc do as described for
the previous error (Not enough free memory).
(possible errors while using WT)
Error: 'A very old copy of Wacky-Talky is already loaded. Please seek
technical help.'
You are using a very old version of Wacky-Talky, please do what has been
described in section 'Upgrading from older versions of Wacky−Talky' of this
Release Note and retry.
Error: 'Cannot quit: don't own vectors (Incarnation not found).'
Wacky−Talky module is trying to be killed or replaced but possibly another
module is the latest owner of the SWI hardware vector.
If you are trying to install !WT, reset your machine without booting (by
pressing [Shift] key while reseting), and then install !WT by running
!WTInstall application.
Error: 'Sorry, no write access. Please seek technical help.'
You are trying to corrupt the structure of the installed !WT application. This
is a warning, you should use !WTInstall application to install !WT.
Inside an installed !WT application, you can only alter the following:
* !Sprites* files,
* !Options* files,
* 3rdParty directory,
* Auto directory,
* WTModules directory.
Running Wacky−Talky from !Boot sequences
========================================
To run Wacky−Talky while booting, add to your !Boot sequence the following
command line command:
(RISC OS 3 users)
*/System:!WT
(RISC OS 2 users, put the following command at the end of your boot sequence)
*Desktop /System:!WT
Note: !WT application will start Desktop.
Upgrading !System applications
==============================
The following material describes a method of upgrading existing !System
application(s) so that they contain the latest release of the Wacky−Talky
manager module.
You should upgrade all the instances of !System you currently have (hard disc
users will tend to have a single !System application) with the following
procedure:
1. Double-click on a !System application.
2. Run from the distribution disc, the application !SysUpdate
Advice for using Wacky−Talky version 0.70 or later
==================================================
* Using compressed WTModule files
WTModule files (by default) can be compressed / decompressed
with !Squash application. To keep their Run and Load actions,
you can change the file~type of the compressed files to:
WTModule (file type: &B6F).
* Using the Auto directory
Inside !WT application −among others− there is a directory
named Auto.
This has been made for easier customisation. You can move there
everything you would like to run when !WT runs.
By default, inside Auto directory there is a script file named
'Default' which runs some utilities such as !SafeDel, !DDD,
!MyMouse etc.
Points to watch out for
=======================
* In order to upgrade !WT application safer, a small module is
responsible to warn you when you try to corrupt !WT's structure.
You should not alter none of the following files: !Boot, !Help,
!Run, !SetVars, WackyTalky; and directory: Resources into
!System.!WT. The only directory you can create inside !WT can be
named 'Documents'.
* Running the main Wacky−Talky module (the manager)
When the manager runs with parameters, passes to CLI its command tail.
When runs without command tail displays internal information (try to
double~click on the manager).
* WT module WT+ will RMFaster the BASIC module
