  14. IMPORTANT NOTE CONCERNING VERSION 1.03 !!

  16. !VZap contains all the virus scanning features of all previous versions of
  17. !Guardian and !GuardianPro and thus supersedes both of these programs as
  18. far as virus scanning goes.

  22. For those of you who require additional disc utilities (such as a powerful
  23. disc sector editor and file recoverer), DISC COMMANDER is now available.
  24.  
  25. I think I am justified in saying that Disc Commander's disc editor is the
  26. most powerful disc editing system available for the Archimedes, working
  27. with any disc format the Archimedes hardware is capable of reading and
  28. being able to recover deleted files, repair corrupted sectors and even
  29. edit sector ID values and low level disc parameters.
  30. Disc Commander can also backup protected discs, set filetypes, guess
  31. filetypes and scramble discs using a chosen password.
  32. Disc Commander is also accompanied by a comprehensive 40 page manual.

  50. CONDITIONS OF USE

  52. This version of !VZap is SHAREWARE.
  53. You are free to copy it and distribute it as much as you like, subject to
  54. the following conditions being obeyed at all times:-
  55.  
  56. a) None of the files are deleted or altered in any way.
  57.  
  58. b) No part of !VZap may be reproduced in any form, or incorporated
  59.    into any other programs without the express written permission from me.
  60.  
  61. c) No profit should be made from sales of !VZap.
  62.    Public Domain and Shareware libraries should consult me before
  63.    permission is granted to include in libraries. This also ensures that
  64.    I know who has the latest version.

  66. d) If you like !VZap and continue to use it longer than a week or two, then
  67.    please register yourself by sending £5.00(UK) to the address above. In 
  68.    this case you will be entitled to receive the latest version and kept
  69.    up to date with any future enhancements.

  77. A huge number of hours work has gone into the production of !VZap and
  78. it is hoped that there are no bugs present. However, if you do have any

  86. INSTRUCTIONS
  87. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  88. !VZap is quite self-explanatory and easy to use.
  89. However, there now follows a brief run down of it's usage and various
  90. options.
  91. Before using !VZap, it is best to make a backup copy (in case !VZap should 
  92. become virus infected) and store this safe somewhere in case you should
  93. need to re-install it.
  94.  
  95. MAIN MENU: (from the icon bar)
  96. ~~~~~~~~~~
  97.            Info       Gives information and version number.
  98.            Kill Task  Allows access to a sub-menu containing
  99.                       up to the last ten tasks loaded. Clicking
  100.                       on a specific task will 'Quit' it.
  101.                       This is handy, especially if unknown
  102.                       'suspicious looking' tasks suddenly load
  103.                       for no apparent reason.
  104.            Choices... Opens the options window (details below)
  105.            Quit       Kill !VZap and remove from the icon bar.

  107. THE CHOICES WINDOW:
  108. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  109.     Filer             Clicking SELECT or MENU lets you change the
  110.                       filing system from any recognised ones
  111.                       available on your computer.
  112.     Drive             Clicking SELECT or MENU lets you change the
  113.                       drive to scan (from 0 to 7)
  114.     Sound             Toggles on and off the sound. This is useful
  115.                       when using in a classroom environment where
  116.                       the bleeps may become irritating.
  117.     Scan memory now   Performs a quick check on the memory
  118.                       inside the computer. If the main status 
  119.                       window is open, a status report will be given.
  120.                       If a virus is present, the status window will
  121.                       open automatically and give you the option to
  122.                       deal with the virus.
  123.     Auto wimp watch   If on, !VZap will bleep each time a new task
  124.                       or application loads, and will also keep an eye
  125.                       on the wimp environment, informing you of any
  126.                       changes or alterations that occur.
  127.     Autozap           If on, !VZap will automatically deal with 
  128.                       viruses when it is doing a disc scan. This is
  129.                       handy if you are a novice user, or simply want
  130.                       viruses removed with no user intervention.
  131.                       HOWEVER. If this is on, ONLY VERIFIED viruses 
  132.                       are dealt with. If off, !VZap will pick up
  133.                       any files that simply 'look suspicious' thereby
  134.                       possibly detecting any as yet undiscovered
  135.                       viruses. It is best to keep this option on unless
  136.                       you are aware of how to examine !Boot files using
  137.                       !Edit.
  138.                       (see also 'On startup' below)
  139.     *Set              Again, this option is for the more technically
  140.                       minded and allows a more thorough search of files.
  141.                       This will pick up any attempts to *SET an alias and
  142.                       then load a virus by calling the alias. It is
  143.                       inevitable that when this option is on, many false
  144.                       alarms may be given. Unless you know how to interpret
  145.                       !Boot files in detail, then leave this option off.
  146.     Disc log          If on, !VZap will write a text file to disc
  147.                       containing any relevant comments whilst it does it's
  148.                       virus scan. The file is automatically created in
  149.                       the same parent directory as !VZap itself, and
  150.                       is called 'Logfile'
  151.                       This option is especially useful when used in
  152.                       conjunction with 'Autozap'.
  153.     Stamp             If on, !VZap will save a short text file to the
  154.                       disc just scanned, informing future users that it is
  155.                       free from viruses known to !VZap. (v1.00 upwards)
  156.     Auto Quit         If on, !VZap will Quit automatically as soon as a 
  157.                       virus scan has been carried out. This can be useful
